This role is the primary Purchasing lead for assigned major product launches. This person will drive Purchasing Buyers and external suppliers to meet cost, timing, and quality requirements. They will utilize specific tools and methods to oversee progress and report to Purchasing management and the Business Unit Product Launch Program Manager.
•Drive Purchasing activities for new product launch programs to achieve program timing milestones, cost targets, and component quality.
•Lead Purchasing discussions in cross-functional product launch meetings; understand all cross-functional activities and how they relate to Purchasing deliverables.
•Concisely communicate to the Buyer team the overall program deliverables, immediate activities they must support, and why they must support them.
•Track supplier tooling investment and part pricing; collaborate with Buyer and Finance teams to track price changes and determine impact to margins.
•Engage and improve MS Excel and MS Project documents to manage new parts listed on a Bill of Material (BOM) from drawing release through Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
•With Supplier Development team, facilitate regular supplier Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) reviews via conference calls and/or on-site visits.
•Comply with PMO Global Project Planning Process (“GP3”).
•Travel\: Up to 25% to Meritor production facilities, domestic and/or global suppliers.
•Bachelor’s degree required
•Strong oral and written English language skills required
•Minimum 5 years of experience with strong product knowledge, product launch or purchasing experience required
•Strong Microsoft Excel skills required
•Experience with an ERP system (Oracle, SAP) preferred
•Experience in commercial vehicle automotive preferred
•Global manufacturing and supply base knowledge preferred
•Experience working in a global cross-functional environment preferred
•May require export control compliance verification
