Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible for executing technical and strategic assignments to address emergent needs and priorities across a $1.2-billion water supply program. Assignments will include solving technical problems and advancing special projects; coordinating or supporting actions to manage risks and challenges to program delivery; preparing strategy documents and presentations; enabling decision-making; and delivering or facilitating briefings. This position supports efficient and effective program delivery by applying critical thinking, leveraging the expertise of others, synthesizing information, and formulating solutions to a varied array of challenges.

The Project Manager interfaces daily with program leadership, project teams, leaders and representatives of various functional areas, technical specialists, external design engineers and construction personnel, and others. The work environment is fast paced, collaborative, and dynamic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of assigned projects and tasks to meet the needs of diverse internal and external stakeholders (e.g., senior program staff, project teams, design consultants, local governments, developers, property owners). Example projects and tasks include: coordinating with local utilities, assisting with construction claims, and participating in operations and water systems integration planning
  • Coordinate with program and project teams to implement risk and value management plans
  • Collect and synthesize information on identified risks and challenges, working with project teams and subject-matter experts to formulate and expedite strategic and tactical responses
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and briefings for various audiences including: city councils, boards, executives, and project teams
  • Confer with the senior program staff to determine strategies, priorities, and desired outcomes
  • Coordinate with and facilitate interdisciplinary teams that may include design, construction, safety, permitting, land use, real estate acquisition, finance and controls, procurement, and public outreach personnel to execute assignments
  • Monitor and control delivery performance of assignments and verify assignments are executed in alignment with program objectives
  • Participate in the preparation, negotiation, and administration of contracts and amendments to achieve quality and value for the program
  • Serve as a technical reviewer within the program quality review process
  • Work as part of an integrated consultant-client team
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience

  • BS or BA in engineering, physical/natural sciences, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Highly skilled in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint

Preferred Experience

  • Professional certification from PMI or similar project delivery organization
  • Familiarity with Acumen Risk software
  • Experience in engineering or project management for pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, water, wastewater, or water resources
