Position Summary:

The Purchasing Manager is a key member of the Grand Rapids Supply Chain Team for a $100 million division of a large multi-national industrial leader in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. The Project Manager is responsible for developing and implementing commodity strategies, identifying and managing cost savings and cost avoidance projects, strategically overseeing suppliers, supporting company objectives as they relate to on-time-delivery and inventory management, as well as driving dual sourcing, and risk mitigation initiatives across the business. The individual is also responsible for providing support to buyers regarding production-related needs, and serving as the commercial liaison between Engineering and Quality. The role requires an individual with strong strategic skills and experience, willing and able to interact at all levels of the organization, including product segment planners, product design, customer service and manufacturing supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as the liaison between Quality, Engineering and the supplier to support technical discussions
  • Willingness to lead and attend early morning or evening calls with overseas suppliers
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and suppliers across the world
  • Assist in make/buy analysis and other strategic procurement decisions
  • Work with internal Procurement Team, Dover Project Managers, PSG Supply Chain Director to achieve goals
  • Conform to all ISO 9001 policies and procedures, Company Code of Ethics, and Company Purchasing Policies
  • Collaborate with planners and buyers to meet program and production schedules, employing best practice methodology regarding asset management and cost control
  • Manage cost savings and risk mitigation projects through the use of a Toll Gate system
  • Achieve in-depth product and commodity knowledge to understand the relationship between supplier technology, capabilities, processes, and capacities
  • Professionally resolve problems (both internal and external) in a fair and ethical manner
  • Drive continuous improvement across the department and organization through root cause analysis and counter measure identification
  • Proficient negotiator with an understanding of cost drivers
  • Ability to multi-task and perform in a dynamic environment
  • Highly organized and efficient in approaching tasks
  • Process oriented
  • Three direct reports (buyers)

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience in purchasing/materials/supply chain management
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Procurement, Logistics, Business, Engineering or related field
  • Project/commodity management experience
  • Experience or education with Kanban systems and other lean manufacturing techniques
  • Experience in managing a spend category requiring technical know-how

  • Knowledge of, ERP/MRP/MRP II systems
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Excellent people skills and adaptable to change
