WSPis currently seeking a Project Engineer to expand our Infrastructure Asset Management group in our North Vancouver office. Reporting to the Vice President – Asset Management & Infrastructure Planning, the successful candidate will be involved with providing leading edge Asset Management consulting services to existing and new clients including efficiently and effectively execution of the projects. The successful candidate will provide high quality return on client investment in our services through complete and insightful work products - delivered on time and within budget. The individual will also participate in marketing WSP services through sole source marketing efforts and pursuit of competitive marketing opportunities. This individual would manage projects in multiple industries including; water, sewer, storm water, electric, transportation, parks, and solid waste utilities.

  • Procure and deliver specialist Asset Management consultancy services to a variety of clients;
  • Preparation of briefs for projects including preliminary programming and estimates;
  • Ensure currency of Asset Management best practices and its application into different environments;
  • Guide and advise on specific key Asset Management opportunities;
  • Provide key inputs at the bidding stage of major projects;
  • Undertakes investigations, inspections and develops solutions to clients’ problems by applying appropriate analysis and design techniques;
  • Undertakes reviews and verification checks on analysis, reports, designs and associated reports;
  • Prepares specifications and contract documents for sub-consultants;
  • Works to solve problems and routine tasks based on previous experience and company guidelines, standards and regulations;
  • Participates in business meetings as required;
  • Assists the Project Manager in identifying business opportunities and developing appropriate methods to place the Business Group in a favourable position to enhance the chance of success;
  • Through working as a project engineer within the team, promotes the negotiations of work with clients as consultant of choice;
  • Under the direction of a Senior Asset Advisor or higher level engineering executive, plan, conducts, overseas projects comprised of several lesser assignments or a single sizeable project;
  • Complexity and scope of projects require seasoned Asset Management & Engineering knowledge. Evaluates progress and identifies and implements modifications to established project criteria and methodologies when necessary;
  • Work is reviewed to assure solid judgement and alignment with goals, priorities and relationship to other crucial areas of the organization;
  • Supervises small groups of engineers/technicians as required;
  • Reviews subordinates work for technical accuracy and may make suggestions with regards to their recruitment, training, evaluation and discipline;
  • Undertake the management of projects including planning and organizing tasks, coordination and control of activities to achieve technical quality, budget, program and client satisfaction, and project financial control and profitability, invoicing and reporting;
  • Ensure that project direction, project management and technical roles are assigned to appropriately skilled and qualified individuals, that they have the resources to deliver and that there is absolute clarity of accountability at individual level on all projects;
  • Ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with appropriate professional and technical standards and practices together with effective quality assurance;
  • Liaise with other areas of the business to provide a total service to clients;
  • Ensure that project activities are consistently aligned to contracted scope and that prior to any scope change, budget is reached and documented with the client;
  • Undertake Asset Management project reviews;
  • Provide sound leadership within the team, encouraging staff to have collective ownership of their outputs;
  • The H&S Policy, H&S Manual, and Local Office Procedures Manual is read, understood, and agreed to with relevant procedures applied to work activities;
  • Workplace hazards are identified and reported including self-management of hazards where appropriate;
  • Ensure that any hazards arising from or associated with projects or activities undertaken are identified, reported and managed including self-management where appropriate; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Engineering Degree from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum total of 8 years’ professional experience with a background in infrastructure asset management;
  • 4+ years of experience with Asset Management processes;
  • 4+ years of experience in engineering design (municipal infrastructure systems);
  • Professional Engineer or eligibility for registration in EGBC is required;
  • Asset Management - ISO55000 Assessment, Asset Planning, Asset Criticality, Maintenance Planning, Asset Optimization Information Systems - Data Collection, Asset Condition and Performance Assessment, Data Improvement, GIS/BIM, Asset Inventory, Asset Management Systems;
  • Lead condition assessment evaluations, Data analysis and tactical reviews to drive forward works planning, Developing maintenance plans, Replace or disposal strategies and Planning drive value outcomes;
  • Proven leadership skills including inspiring others and pursuing ambitious and challenging goals;
  • Ability to work effectively and competently with people at all levels in the organisation; is a great team member;
  • Ability to work under supervision as well as autonomously when required; possess effective time management and strong organisational skills;
  • High level of initiative, motivation, drive, energy and enthusiasm to get the job done;
  • Ability to work to deadlines and see tasks through to completion;
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • High ethical standards in parallel with WSP’ corporate policy, Vision, Mission and Values;
  • Valid driver’s license; and
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
