PROJECT ARCHITECT Populous is a global architecture and design firm that creates the places where people love to be together, like Yankee Stadium, the London Olympics, and the Super Bowl. DESCRIPTION: Develops, modifies and reviews production drawings and construction documents. Corrects and updates design, technical, and construction documents. Develops solutions to technical problems. Supervise less senior project architect, architect, technician, or intern during a project. Responsible for keeping a project on schedule by planning, organizing, and communicating key deliverables to the project manager and project team. Will be responsible for managing project timelines, schedules, resources, and project budget. Responsible for the overall technical development and delivery of a specific architectural project from conception through construction. The preferred candidate will have an interest in working in a dynamic and collaborative global design environment with a diverse range of public assembly building types; including the design of sports venues, convention centers, community buildings and transportation facilities airports. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research code requirements and ensure feasibility of design.
  • Responsible for following and possibly managing project budget, work plans, consultants and schedule. Communicates with Project Manager regarding key deliverable dates, tracks fees, and labor costs for conformance to workplan.
  • Creates designs to meet client specifications, create and propose budget and time estimations.
  • Maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team (i.e. Project Designer, Project Manager, and Principal in Charge).
  • Acts as an intermediary between the client and the architect team.
  • Fosters on-going communication through team meetings, minutes, and up-date memos to project team including consultants.
  • Ensures project documentation and contracts are in compliance with the standards set forth by Populous policy.
  • Construction administration including processing of submittals, RFI’s, and other project documentation during construction.
  • Coordinating team effort to complete a project promptly and successfully.
  • Provides office leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Ensure the team is working effectively and keeping to schedule and budget.
  • Review work and communicate needs and concerns to project staff.
  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed. Makes recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations. May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited program or equivalent in education or experience.
  • 7-12 years of experience in architectural practice with prior experience in all phases of architectural projects.
  • Project design experience with sport stadium, arenas, convention centers, hospitality, and aviation a strong plus.
  • Registered Architect with a current license.
  • NCARB registration preferred.
  • LEED not require, but a plus.


  • Strong relationship-building and problem solving skills.

  • Strong knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets a must.
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in, AutoCAD, Autodesk, Revit, required. Familiarity with Newforma preferred.
  • Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in team environment.
