HDR is currently in need of a Project Architect with strong Project Management, Design and Construction Documentation skill sets for our Minneapolis Transport Architecture group. The Group is involved in a wide variety of architectural projects including: transit stations, airports, maintenance facilities, Transit Oriented Development (TOD), urban design and placemaking. The Transport Design Group includes several interdisciplinary design professionals, including: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Planning/ Design.
Project Architect duties may include the following: Managing a project team, independently evaluating, selecting and applying architectural, urban design, planning, and site design techniques, permitting procedures, land use regulations, zoning rules and modifications. Strong Revit skills, including editing and furthering construction documentation, performing architectural design assignments with only general instruction from the Architectural Director or Project Manager, with effective results, working directly with owners and allied professionals are required. The Project Architect will also be involved with the selection and recommendation of products and building systems, writing architectural specifications and reports, developing drawing details, and performing code reviews, coordinating the drawings of multiple disciplines, independently and in cooperation with junior and senior professionals. This role may be assisted by Project Architects other Architectural Project Coordinators or Technicians and may be responsible for work in all phases of the design process. Independent and comprehensive code research for municipal and technical topics as well as proactive communication within project teams is key. Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment.
This position will participate in the conceptual design and provides full technical support through the entire project acting as a resource to the Project Director or Project Manager as the project team moves through preliminary design, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
- Work directly with the Architectural Project Manager in the execution of transport architecture projects
- Capable of organizing a complete set of production drawings
- Adept at interpreting and meeting building code and NFPA 130 requirements.
- Experience in taking a conceptual design through design development and construction documentation.
- Coordinate with architectural staff and other disciplines such as civil, landscape, structural, mechanical, electrical and communication systems.
- Provide oversight and direction of architectural and technical staff in all areas of technical work performance.
- Attention to detail and follow through.
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Architecture required. 5-10+ years professional experience preparing conceptual drawings and plans, design development, details, specifications and comprehensive construction documents is required. Must be Licensed Architect in the State of Minnesota and/or NCARB Registration.Experience with Public Agencies either in-house or as a consultant.Experience with transit stations, airports, maintenance facilities, Transit OrientedStrong team player. A collaborative team-approach work style is a must as is the ability to self-motivate and lead discussionsSkill in Revit (BIM), AutoCAD required.Experience with specification preparationAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred QualificationsMinimum 5 years' experience in transportation architecture, preferred.Project Design and Management experience with heavy, light, and/or high speed rail and working knowledge of transit stations, related facilities and structures and engineering integration, desired.Additional preferred 3D experience includes Photoshop, SketchUp, 3D Max, Rhino or BIM platforms. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint), AutoCAD or Microstation, and 2D drawing experience highly desired.Development (TOD), urban design and placemaking is a plusDesire to pursue growth opportunities and experience and/or interest in transport architecture, urban design, and sustainable design/LEED certification desired but not required.Preference given to local candidates
