Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s Information Technology (IT) department is seeking detail oriented Data Scientist (internal job title: Programmer Analyst Specialist), with expertise in using the data science concepts on Big Data Platform(s). In this challenging role, you will apply your knowledge of advanced analytic techniques against very large, diverse data sets that include structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, from different sources and serve as the technical expert on assigned projects.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Devises, creates or modifies procedures to solve complex problems.
  • Identifies and uses appropriate Machine Learning algorithms to develop Supervised and/or Unsupervised models
  • Develops Advanced Analytic Solutions including real time, predictive, textual, image processing etc.
  • Applies data engineering & data science principles and experience within the Big Data Framework of Hadoop, Hive and Spark.
  • Is able to use analytical tools and packages such as R, SparkR, Cognos, Shiny, ggplot, plotly, and leaflet to support the company’s data needs.
  • Will work on company- wide in multi-platform environments, on multi-project assignments.
  • Serves as the project or group leader, applies expertise and related work experience in Big Data management to ensure assigned project(s) success.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree plus 7 years directly related BI or data warehousing work experience.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in Data Engineering and Data Science in using Big Data Framework (Hadoop and Spark).
  • Expert Knowledge of Spark including data processing using core Spark, real time streaming Spark, Spark SQL.
  • Knowledge and work experience with general ETL, Data Warehousing and OLAP knowledge and work experience is a must.
  • Skilled in the use/application of MapReduce, Hive Sqoop, Oozie, Avro, FlumeKafa, etc.
  • Skilled in the application of various SQL Engines to include, but not limited to, Oracle SQL, IBM Big SQL, Apache Drill, etc.
  • Machine Learning skills and work experience with R, Spark MLib, and H2O.
  • Ability to develop Visualizations and Dashboards using R Shiny and/or Cognos

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skills in the application of Big Data Framework with Hortonworks or Cloudera work experiencepreferred.
  • Industry certifications in Cloudera or Hortonworks will be preferred
  • Experience in ETL tools like Talend, SSIS, SSAS etc.
  • Demonstrated competency in logical and analytical and conceptual thinking, and reasoning abilities.
  • Demonstrated competency in identifying and solving problems along with good decision making ability.
  • Demonstrated ability in the utilization of multiple tools to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform as technical expert in field.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently.

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor, Other Education: Business, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics
