JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Materials Research Institute at Penn State seeks outstanding applicants for a programmer/analyst position to be a part of the National Science Foundation funded Materials Innovation Platform national facility at Penn State – the 2D Crystal Consortium (2DCC) - which is focused on the development of 2D films and crystals for applications in next-generation devices. The goal of the platform is to provide individuals at universities, federal laboratories and industry with the equipment infrastructure and human capital to conceive, research, and develop the next generation of materials systems to maintain the United States’ pre-eminence in electronic material, device, and component technology.
The programmer/analyst position is focused primarily on the development and maintenance of a new national tool for materials science instrumentation that enables discoverability of instrumentation as well as tracking and analytics of broader impacts from instrument use. This position will also support the internal 2DCC data management activities and be familiar with the tools and processes used by the 2DCC research data manager who leads that effort.
This position typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher, and 4+ years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates for this position must have a background in Computer Science or Information Science and Technology or a related technical field. It is preferred, but not required, that candidates also have familiarity with domain science instrumentation or data related to the research of the 2DCC (e.g., Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry). The position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment and will include interfacing with facility managers at various other external institutions for inclusion in the national tool.
