General Purpose:

Reporting to the director of parent gifts, the program manager provides leadership and strategic direction for the parent gifts office administrative staff to ensure a high-level of support for the director of parent gifts and parent gifts officers with an emphasis on written briefing materials, proposal development, case management, special events, correspondence, stewardship and volunteer support. The program manager assists with all aspects of prospect management to enhance the productivity of officers on the road and to support internal reporting and communications. In addition, the program manager produces volunteer communications to support the Parents Leadership Council and the Parents Annual Fund; maintains a production calendar of invitations, emails, ground mailings, and website; serves as a liaison with the Office of the President concerning written materials; and serves as a member of the associate vice president's management team.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree and two years of event planning or related experience and two years' supervisory experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.


  • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task and meet deadlines. Ability to work well, both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail. Strong computer skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to train and coach staff with varying experience and expertise. Ability to interact in a professional manner with high level administrators and donors including arranging special visits and hosting special guests to campus.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to initiate and apply creative solutions.
  • Professionalism, maturity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Preferred Education and Experience: Experience in a university setting or with non-profit development work; familiarity with Yale; experience working directly with high level executives, faculty or administrators; proficiency using database systems to produce reports and other analysis and ability to design and produce reports and create presentations.
