The Program Manager (PM) position is responsible for the successful management of government programs driving performance, schedule, meeting cost requirements and limiting/ mitigating risk. The PM role will be responsible for the development and successful management of assigned programs within a matrixed Integrated Product Team Environment.


  • Plans, manages and participates in all technical aspects of the designated programmatic efforts on the Joint Programs team
  • Together with Engineering and Business Development, develops new products and business opportunities within the HDT offering that are value-add to the customer.
  • Works directly with customer System Program Offices on all programmatic responsibilities, to include at a minimum:cost, schedule, performance, supportability
  • Serves as conduit to senior management in long-range planning concerning new or projected products and advancements
  • External spokesperson for the company on highly significant matters relating to research, engineering matters, programs, and technical capabilities
  • Supports attracting and obtaining major new business opportunities
  • Participates with other program managers and other functional areas in determining the business plan and project priorities, resource needs, and budgets based on the strategic directions
  • Owns the established performance, schedule, budget and product cost, while managing within the given and dynamic constraints
  • Provides periodic reports of program status and progress to management
  • Provides program interface between operations, engineering, Defense Programs Teams, manufacturing, and other key functions. Takes an active role in start of work, design reviews, and program reviews that are required by the contract
  • Performs analysis and manages program risk and problems
  • Anticipates potential issues; implements related mitigation plans, and follows mitigation plans through to completion
  • Works with functional managers and leads to establish projections of resources and skills necessary to execute the program
  • Works with the functional manager and leads to determine and manage the optimal work breakdown structure for the program and phase of the program
  • Provides input to functional managers on individual performance planning, including goal setting and performance feedback
  • Ensures the quality, integrity, and timeliness of products and program deliverables and ensures deliverables are optimized for the program
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or business administration, Master’s in a technical field or MBA preferred (or commensurate work experience), PMP certification highly recommended


Five to seven years of project or program management experience, closely working with management, engineering team, business development, the customer, and manufacturing; eight to ten years of developmental life cycle experience in DoD programs; cost accounting experience and strong team leadership experience required.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills; possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees and managers at all levels within the company
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, willing to work overtime when necessary
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English;
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance.
