Program Director (Beacon)

Position overview:

Sunnyside Community Services (SCS) is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee programming offered at P.S. 343 in Sunnyside. This school will house a range of educational and recreational services for youth as well as services for adults in the community.

This program is a part of a continuum of Youth and Family Services offered by Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, after-school programs for Elementary and Middle school students, High School job readiness, career readiness, and enrichment programming and Adult and Immigrant Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee an array of youth and family services offered during after-school hours, some holidays, weekends, and summer

  • Supervise a team of staff including full-time and part-time employees

  • Lead and train staff in the development of engaging educational and recreational programming that responds to the needs and interests of children, teens, and adults in the community

  • Develop strategies to identify and respond to additional community needs

  • Establish and manage community and school partnerships to enrich services offered by the program

  • Ensure that program outcomes are tracked and met

  • Develop and implement additional program evaluations to ensure that the program is providing high quality services and continuously improving

  • Work in partnership with supervisors and the SCS fiscal department to monitor expenses and ensure funds are spent in accordance with the program budget

  • Ensure that the program meets all health and safety requirements mandated by the Department of Health

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience, at least three of which were in a supervisory position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or other relevant field, Masters Preferred

  • Previous experience with DYCD Beacon programs

  • Highly organized with strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experienceworking with a highly diverse, predominantly immigrant community

  • Understanding of how to assess and respond to community needs

  • Ability to work some weekend and evening hours

  • Bilingual in Spanish greatly desired

  • Completion of coursework required for directors of School Age Child Care
