Anschutz Medical Campus The Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) of the University of Colorado | Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking candidates for a full-time position as a Professional Research Assistant (PRA) or Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr. PRA) - Data Manager to conduct analyses of data from Ventilator Assisted Pneumonia.

NATURE OF WORK

The (Senior) Professional Research Assistant will be responsible for the data management of a large multicenter study. This will require the merging, cleaning, and querying of data from various platforms under supervision and direction from collaborators. The (Senior) PRA will collaborate with team members in CIDA and Pediatric Critical Care and Pulmonary department within Colorado Children's Hospital to create and store data for specific analyses. Analyses will focus on specific 'omics approaches to Ventilator Assisted Pneumonia (VAP). The VAP study is a multicenter, multi-omic, longitudinal study following pediatric patients admitted into one of eight NICHD CPCCRN pediatric intensive care units.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The (Senior) PRA in CIDA will be supervised by the Principal Investigator and indirectly by the CIDA Director.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

The incumbent is expected to work collaboratively with other members of the research team and provide high-level, professional and scientifically rigorous data management and analytic support to the research teams.

The (Senior) PRA will conduct data management and integration of different data sources with an emphasis on 'omics studies. He/she will work with other researchers on the analytical aspects of the research process, including: complex programming, developing analysis plans, data integration, data visualization, and dissemination of results. This individual is expected to compile all datasets for analysis, keep detailed data dictionaries for all projects, keep track of the folder structure for all data in the VAP project, maintain logs of all shipped samples and sent datasets.

In addition to the work of a PRA, the Senior PRA will be expected to work independently to provide analytic insights as well as data sharing and project management protocols.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience with management of large data sets, quality control, and data manipulation techniques using SAS or R (preferably R).
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience of basic statistical analysis principles relevant in medical research and their application using statistical software (e.g., SAS or STATA).
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Strong experience with relational databases.
  • Experience creating databases from multiple data sources including large omics and clinical datasets.
  • Experience with linkage of 'omics dataset with clinical datasets.
  • Familiarity with clinical datasets collected for the purposes of studying public health, health services research, and chronic disease.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and IRB requirements for health care research and programming.
  • Good organizational skills across multiple projects, self-directed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including a positive attitude and the ability to work with a variety of investigators and colleagues.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary research teams in a collaborative manner and maintaining cooperative, supportive relationships with all project stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant sciences (statistics, computer science, life sciences) or informatics (applied mathematics, computational biology, computational chemistry, bioinformatics, clinical informatics).
  • 2 years of experience in performing data management, computing descriptive statistics, figure and table generation, and data reporting in a healthcare setting.
