As a Product Owner (PO) you are a key member of the Scrum Team and are responsible for defining and prioritizing the product backlog to deliver the most customer value with each sprint. You will have experience managing an application product lifecycle from inception through implementation and can successfully deliver the value to the customer, by appropriately creating and prioritizing product backlog, and accepting stories ready for release. The Product Owner must also possess a strong technical background to work closely with the Product Architect in understanding and prioritizing the architectural needs of the platform.
To be successful as a PO, you are comfortable navigating organizational boundaries to successfully develop products by working closely with stakeholders to ensure that product vision, roadmap, and the backlog are all in alignment. To successfully understand the products and users a portion of your time will be spent with the stakeholders in the organization on internal customer-facing activities and the remainder of time will be spent with multiple Scrum Teams.
• Work closely with the stakeholders to construct the backlog
• Build, prune, prioritize and maintain the product backlog
• Collaborate with technical leadership to ensure key architectural roadmap items are woven into the product backlog
• Define the objectives of the features within the backlog
• Participate in sprint planning, and coordination of content dependencies
• Become the primary source for user story details and priorities
• Accept stories into the product baseline using well documented acceptance criteria
• Coordinate and plan releases
• Demonstrate the teams’ work to stakeholders via sprint reviews
• Consistently manage stakeholder expectations
What you’ll bring to the table:
• Bachelor’s degree within a related field of study
• 10+ years of relevant experience within a software development organization
• Experience with an agile or scrum-based methodology
• Strong communication, strong presentation and writing skills
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with ability to demonstrate influence in a consultative fashion to stakeholders and other team members
• Familiarity with workflow management systems
• Experience presenting and conducting demo reviews with stakeholders
• Understands business drivers and how those relate to software delivery
• Understands technical and functional design requirements
• Experience managing product lifecycle
• Understanding of Business Intelligence, enterprise reporting, and how to use data to tell a story
• A fundamental understanding of ITSM or ITIL
• Technical depth of understanding deep enough to fluently converse with developers
• Understands business drivers and how those relate to software delivery
• Able to qualify for a U.S. Federal Government Moderate Risk Position
• System integration familiarity using web services and other web based technologies such as XML, HTML, AJAX, CSS, HTTP, REST/SOAP
• Certified Scrum Product Owner is preferred
• Experience with development and implementation of ServiceNow ITSM modules - Incident Management, Problem Management, Configuration Management, Change Management, Knowledge Management or other ITSM application is preferred but not required
• Experience with extending the ServiceNow schema to custom applications is preferred but not required
