Job Description Summary:

The Product Marketing Manager develops marketing plans and product launch plans for a set of company products, working in collaboration with product management, sales, business development, program managers, business leaders, and other key stakeholders. The Product Marketing Manager defines product positioning and messaging that reflects customer/market requirements through research, analysis, evaluation and strategy; develops product marketing content; develops product information and training; and oversees implementation of product marketing plans.

Essential Job Functions (includes but is not limited to):

  • Clarify the voice of the market and customer to define product functionality and performance requirements
  • Develop marketing strategies and execute marketing product plans/programs in collaboration with product management, sales, business development, program managers, technical support, pricing, and business leaders
  • Understand the voice of the customer based on market and customer research: customer/market product requirements, wish list, expectations; motivators for purchasing; buying terms/constraints.
  • Define key product messages to reflect customer/market requirements, product benefits and differentiators
  • Define how the product meets/exceeds customer need better than the competition
  • Define content for product presentations, product website, collateral and sales playbooks
  • Influence product packaging/design based on market/customer voice
  • Develop and execute clear, realistic, and relevant marketing strategies and operational product marketing plans; manage cross-functional implementation of the plan
  • Effectively manage marketing product portfolios to meet market and customer needs within business requirements/profit goals
  • Identify and define significant market/product opportunities to meet sales and growth objectives through portfolio and customer needs analysis; stay informed of customer opportunities via sales, product management, proposals management, competitive intelligence
  • Work with pricing team to ensure pricing strategy is in line with the market, competitive products, and business goals
  • Work with Marketing Communications to refine presentation of messaging in e-communications and marketing collateral
  • Develop measurable marketing strategy/programs to drive product demand
  • Educate business leaders and cross-functional teams regarding marketing data, market trends and marketing plans
  • Develop and deliver product training including product messaging, competitive positioning and value proposition to Sales and Business Development, Proposals and other cross-functional teams; provide product training to internal Sales and Business Development, channel partners, distributors, and customers as needed
  • In addition to the Essential Functions, also performs similar work-related duties as assigned.

  • Strategically plan and successfully implement new product launches on schedule
  • Ability to integrate various business initiatives, including marketing, operations and finances
  • Develop product and marketing strategies
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills in communicating with internal teams and with external messages to customers/market/channels
  • Ability to convert technical features into product benefits, using both creative and analytical thinking
  • Must have the ability to effectively move from analysis to insight and execution; project management experience desirable
  • Must be creative and innovative as well as customer-oriented
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills; must be able to prioritize workload which includes taking direction/assignments from several individuals; must be able to multi-task and to stay on top of multiple projects and activities
  • Must have strong personal computer skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels in the Company and effectively communicate recommendations to executive management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work cooperatively and effectively cross-functional teams and develop strong relationship skills both with customers and company personnel

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or software engineering
  • Minimum of three years product marketing experience
  • Proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product marketing plan throughout its lifecycle
  • Must have experience promoting and positioning technical products used in both government and civil applications
  • Must have experience in utilizing various forms of market research; an ability to understand and anticipate market trends and customer needs

Travel Requirement:

  • Occasional overnight travel as required; should not exceed 10-20% of the time

Working Conditions:

  • General office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated

Physical Demands:

  • Office environment where the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Some walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment.
