The Software Development & Operations team within PBS is focused on reusing common technology and modular design to enable simplicity at a time when the world's creative and platform economies are converging. The Product Development team services the B-to-B knowledge management needs for PBS staff, PBS constituents, and Member Station so as to increase organizational memory using secure, modular web-based applications to store and retrieve knowledge assets.

The Product Manager II leads development for the Staff Intranet, B-to-B Workplace/Extranet, National Listings, Aggregator and non-linear scheduling tools. S/he partners with a cross-functional group of content managers and information custodians to design and analyze go-to-market strategies, comprise product positioning and evangelize key benefits of easing the distribution of information. They contribute significant knowledge and expertise in solving knowledge management problems with responsive, online applications and business process engineering. In all work, they use experience and judgment to solve problems, make informed decisions, forecast efficiency-based improvements and take ownership of outcomes.

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops product strategy, vision and roadmap that aligns with the architecture and technology direction, consistent with enterprise priorities as agreed with product-line management.
  • Works closely with management and stakeholder departments, ensuring strong operational and strategic alignment and develops supportive business cases
  • Work closely with various customer constituencies to identify business priorities and corresponding justification and periodically communicate product roadmaps to these constituencies.
  • Responsible for stakeholder management and keeping relevant groups informed and engaged by performing agenda development, initiative and decision tracking, facilitation, and follow-through on actions.
  • Partners with the service desk team to effectively resolve and communicate issues.
  • Defines and establishes the business outcomes and KPIs associated with product, in collaboration with the business.
  • Builds both formal and informal professional networks among relevant internal and external stakeholders and influencers, in a manner designed to maximize the success of the product.
  • Implements and follows an iterative approach to product delivery.
  • Diligently follows relevant media product and technology trends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements for success:

  • Minimum five or more years of product management or relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or another related field
  • Master's degree in Knowledge Management, business administration, or related field of study preferred
  • Experience with both Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • PMP certified preferred
  • Certification in product management or the product development life cycle (e.g., Pragmatic Institute Certification
  • Certification in knowledge management
  • Demonstrated success defining and launching software products
  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience working with various disciplines (including executives, users, computer programming staff, and operations) to ensure the on-time delivery of software products and services
  • Experience applying emerging media technologies, ideally involving distribution and deployment of products across a large, complex organization
  • Proven use of abstract thinking – the ability to derive solutions, principles, and ideas that are not physically present.
  • Knowledge of product development, business analysis, systems requirements and IT change management processes and related technologies
  • Displays decisive leadership and judgment for software development efforts
  • Deeply understands how to inform product strategy with analytics and considers these when making key decisions.
  • Understands and utilizes the language used by developers in finding, choosing and using APIs to display content effectively in the product portfolio.
  • Ensures the consistent review of the growth strategy and product vision
  • Recognizes and mitigates against common product planning and roadmap pitfalls.
  • Ability to develop plans, capture and analyze data, summarize findings and implement initiatives
