The Product Manager is responsible for defining, planning, and managing the product and strategy for assigned software products and related services. It is also responsible for managing the product-related communication within the company and with its customers. The product manager leads the product marketing initiatives for company products throughout the product life-cycle.

Principal Functions of the Job

Systems Analysis

  • Create product strategy that clearly outlines target markets, positioning, competitive positioning, pricing, promotional strategy, and roadmap

  • Research current and future industry needs by: attending trade shows, and seminars; reading trade journals; and internet exploration.

  • Gather and define requirements by interviewing customers and other industry experts to establish system requirements for software features.

  • Identify Customers for Advisory Committees and coordinate Advisory ongoing meetings for the collection of feedback on prioritizing release features and enhancement requests.

  • Document functional requirements in a consistent, structured fashion that is conducive to their use as input in software design, software testing processes, and can contribute to user documentation.

  • Write, review, and/or approve functional and technical software specifications, in conjunction with Engineering.

Product Management

  • Define and manage the assigned product line(s) to assure they meet or exceed the needs of their market at a competitive price.

  • Trend Analysis. Research key industry trends and determine their impact on assigned products. Review legislative and/or policy changes from accrediting organizations (e.g. AIRS, JCAHO) and government agencies (e.g. HUD, HHS, VA, CMS). Recommend enhancements to assure compliance with these policy changes.

  • Competitive Product Analysis. Use competitive information compiled by Marketing and other sources to keep abreast of competitor’s product features and adjust product strategy as needed.

  • Pricing and Product Offerings. Participate in the establishment of pricing for assigned product line(s). Determine which software features should be packaged as separately-priced offerings.

  • Contribute to product Exit and Migration Plans: Evaluate product life cycle and analyze when retirement of products or add-on offerings might be warranted.

  • Provide Win/Lose Analysis data when appropriate, to support Pragmatic Marketing efforts.

 

Release Management

  • Lead a release planning committee to determine the feature content of releases.

  • Maintain a Product Roadmap for all assigned product lines. Communicate release plans internally and to customers.

  • Participate in project reviews of completed projects.

  • Assist in training of Customer Care, Implementation and Sales staff on new releases.

  • Serve as product requirement liaison between customers and Engineering.

  • Manage Beta Testing/Early Adoption Procedures

  • Participates in Launch Planning, coordinating efforts for an effective launch of new products and/or releases of current products.

 

Customer Account Management

  • Respond to and prioritize customer enhancement requests.

  • Serve as a resource to Customer Care, Implementation, and Sales, when necessary.

  • Participate in sales presentations, customer visits, conferences and presentations as required.

  • Assist in the development of content for marketing material for assigned product lines.

  • Take an active role in strategic sales calls and customer-facing activities when needed.

 

Miscellaneous

  • Participate in the continued improvement of department policies and processes.

  • Serve as a resource for quality assurance in their development of test scripts.

  • Review product documentation for accuracy and clarity.

 

Vendor Relationship Management

  • Make recommendations to the General Manager when a new vendor relationship would add value to our product offerings.

  • Work with third party vendors to define interfaces.

  • Coordinate the resolution of customer issues related to interfaces with vendor offerings.

 

  • Participate in the training and/or mentoring programs as assigned or required.

  • Adhere's to the Mediware Values and supports a positive company’s culture

  • Responds to the needs and requests of clients and Mediware management and staff in a professional and expedient manner.

Job Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration , Computer Science (CS), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Management Information Systems (MIS) or equivalent. 5 years applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 3 years of work experience within the human and social services industry, where 2 or more years have included using and implementing web-based software applications. Experience with Bowman Systems’ or other Mediware products is a plus.

  • Previous product management experiencepreferred.

  • Clear and experienced understanding of software development life cycle procedures and processes.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, listening and problem-solving skills.
