Product Engineering ManagerTheProduct Engineering Manager isresponsible for the management of multiple R&D projects and a diverse team of designers and engineers for the development of new products and to improve existing product performance. Lead R&D injection molding projectssupporting prototype development and improvingprocesses overall. Coordinates and manages experiments in the lab and on production line-equipment to develop and validate new products andprocessesthat enhance profit margin or efficiency of new or current products. Works closely with external vendors to evaluate and approve new suppliers and tool makers. Aids in formation, organization, and development of intellectual property.

Detailed Description

  • Managing new product development projects from early stage prototype design to making prototype samples, testing, documentation, and releasing to production.  Hand-off fully designed projects to project managers in Engineering services or Manufacturing teams with continued Engineering team support.
  • Lead R&D injection molding projects supporting new Process/ Product Development and testing new materials.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including Packaging and Quality Engineers as well as Operators and Technicians to solve technical issues during product development.
  • Review Engineering designs, documentation and support the development of new tooling requirements for facilities across the country and internationally.
  • Communicate with external vendors or production teams to coordinate and lead projects related to product development or process improvement and energy or efficiency savings.
  • Manage design engineers, packaging engineers, and technicians to execute against project timelines.
  • Provides technical expertise and direction in the design and fabrication of prototype tooling and testing systems.
  • Assist in providing technical support for Manufacturing, Sourcing, Marketing, and Sales departments.
  • Present and communicate research results internally and externally including documentation when necessary for patent disclosures.
  • Evaluate and qualify new suppliers.
  • Support Niagara’s effort to reduce carbon footprint and sustainability.

Work Experience/KSA’s

  • Required:
    • 7-10 years  – Experience in polymer or polymer composite mechanics, testing, and processing fields.
    • 5-7 years  – Design Experience
    • 5-7 years  – Experience in Position, Research Laboratory Assistant or technician
    • 3-5 years  – Supervising Employees, working with graduate level researchers, interns, or lab assistants

  • Preferred:
    • 10+ years  – Experience in polymer or polymer composite mechanics, testing, and processing fields
    • 7-10 years  – Design Experience

  • Possess knowledge and thorough understanding of relevant manufacturing processes.

Education

  • Minimum Required: 
    • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related fields or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: 
    • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
    • Materials Science and Engineering exposure.
    • Polymer processing or science and Packaging training.
    • MBA or other management training.

Certification/License:

  • Required:            None Required
  • Preferred:           FE/EIT in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Preferred:           Management certification for technical professional

Foreign Language

  • Required:            None Required
  • Preferred:           Minimum Professional Proficiency, Spanish, Chinese, German, Italian
