What will you do at Ciena?
As a key member of Ciena's fast paced NPI Host-Modem Test Engineering team, the successful candidate will develop, enhance, and monitor the test automation process (S/W & H/W) for the System, EST, & Config portion of the Test Process.
The successful candidate will define the test specification jointly with our Design team, and will define test equipment requirements for the SYS/EST/CFG Test environment. Candidate will also develop the S/W for the automation, the system provisioning for adequate system configuration and document everything for life cycle support with real-time Confluence documentation tools.
Participate in product evolution by providing innovative SYS/EST/CFG solutions.
Follow the NPI Gating process steps by providing analysis and feedback inputs to the development team for each steps : (Functional Agreement, Component Placement Agreement, Physical Agreement)
Participate in defining the test strategy (including test steps, equipment requirements, captives, custom test tools, Log monitoring points, Environmental Test strategy, etc...)
Develop out-of-box smart and clever Test S/W automation in C#, Python, & Linux scripts.
Must enjoy working in a Lab environment with hands-on product testing as he will need to team-up with R&D to develop the working recipe to test and debug the first Alpha and Beta Prototypes.
Develop fault isolation troubleshooting tools and document them in online guides via Confluence.
Investigate faults, alarms, or heat dissipation on key components during EST temperature cycles.
Frequently visit to our Local NPI Contract Manufacturer to monitor prototypes production and help investigate issues.
Provide product training and knowledge sharing to CM engineers & technicians team to improve their technical Trouble shooting skills on defective cards.
Perform Data analysis of Test yield to early identify design related hardware, software, performance or even test automation robustness issues.
Provide reports & drive resolution by pulling key players within each team.
As part of constant improvement, The candidate will refine test processes to gain the highest test coverage, fully automated Test process and highly efficient test routine to handle high volume throughput at less cost.
From a teamwork requirement, good interpersonal skills are required, good relations with others and flexibility to help others or request help if needed to meet the project commit date.
Collaboration with stakeholders
This role implies a strong teamwork with Ottawa and CM Test Engineers team. This role requires to be located in Ottawa for a very close working relation within the H/W & S/W Designers and support of our Gateway NPI manufacturer.
Areas of impact
The candidate will be providing the optimal test coverage tools & solution to assure highest quality of prototypes delivery to R&D to shorten their validation process and accelerate the overall Time to Market introduction for eventual revenue shipments.
Strong technical skills with hands on experience in test & debugging of high tech telecom and data-center product
Strong Hands-on experience on S/W development (C#, Python, Linux scripts).
Excellent knowledge of electronic components (Optical, Digital and analog devices )
Ability to develop clear and structured test document real-time in Confluence
Team Player to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams around the world.
Self-motivated, well-organized with a willingness to learn.
Able to manage multiple tasks with flexibility to refocus as priority changes.
Ability to work under pressure and perform both strategic and sustaining tasks.
Open to site visits at factories around the world!

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Speaking & writing: Fluent English
Bachelor Degree in Electronics/ Electrical / Optical Engineering / SW development
Masters in above fields or 3-5 years in High Tech electronic industry as Full-time, Intern, Co-op, Design, Test, and/or Manufacturing
