Accountabilities

This position is responsible for Process Ownership and Governance of Technology Business Management for the Enterprise Technology & Experience (ETX) organization. The candidate will be fully accountable for thought leadership regarding business utilization of our Technology Business Management tool (Apptio), in order to drive allocated views of our ETX expenses (inclusive of accounting transactions). The candidate will work collaboratively across both the ETX and IT & Business Finance organizations to gather current state, pain points, and potential solutions in order to create smooth, streamlined, sustainable processes to ensure source system data quality. Also paramount are the creation of comprehensive, actionable reporting views that are easily understood by ETX CIOs, Portfolio Leads/Managers, and Business & IT Finance. These reports must be tied to both our cost center and portfolio/project views as well.

Monthly reporting and variance analysis to be compiled and synthesized for all of ETX; additionally the candidate will apply independent thought and experiential knowledge in order to recommend timely corrective actions, all of which will be provided to the Head of Technology Operations.

The candidate will collaborate with the DevOps team responsible for the Apptio tool, also seeking input from this experience team, as well as providing the team with data & reporting requirements. The candidate will also interact with the Resource & Financial Management process owner to ensure a clear understanding of process changes and the impact to data in the Apptio tool. Other MassMutual enterprise tools to be leveraged in this role are Apptio, Ariba, SAP, Workday, and our internal Accrual process. Expense types include internal & external labor, third-party fixed fee contracts, software & hardware licenses and fees, and training & travel. Effective interpersonal and communications skills are essential to operating in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Individual typically has 10-15+ years of related work experience and may have significantly more
  • Bachelors' Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong financial acumen, prior IT Finance or budget responsibility of $400M+ strongly preferred
  • Intimate knowledge of Technology Business Management practices in a mature IT organization, as well as a mature IT Finance organization, including 10+ years' experience with TBM (cost transparency, consumption by Tower/Sub-Tower, etc.)
  • Create technology business management policies, processes, and data governance routines
  • Create annual and monthly reporting packages and variance analysis routines
  • Prepare Board materials relative to TBM data, including comprehensive variance analysis and insightful comments
  • Provide strategic and tactical consultation to the executive and senior leadership team
  • Serve as the TBM liaison between ETX and Business & IT Finance
  • Build cooperative relationships with IT leadership, Strategic Portfolio & Financial Management, Business & IT Finance, and other process stakeholders to establish the best financial views of ETX expenses
  • Complete a comprehensive analysis of our current Apptio implementation, and make recommendations
  • Participate in industry forums and complete annual benchmarking, as well as provide thought leadership regarding ETX efficiency opportunities

Skills

  • Excellent financial analysis skills, including Advanced Excel skills;
  • Prior successful use of CA PPM Cloud, Hyperion, Workday, Ariba, SAP systems (or similar), relative to IT project financials;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: ability to convey complex issues, explain methodologies, and influence resolutions in writing (including PowerPoint materials) and orally;
  • Ability to create streamlined, easy to follow training materials & communications;
  • Efficiency-minded and experienced in lean business systems;
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 10-15+ years' experience in a financial position (preferably IT Finance), with a strong emphasis on technology business management
