The purpose of this role is to partner with the Commercial Operations function (including Sales Ops, Marketing Ops and Leadership & Development) to address key process issues. Specifically, this role will play an integral part in leading projects that make internal processes more efficient and effective. This position will be responsible for taking a broader view of the Commercial Operations function to determine collaboration opportunities across departments and should keep external focus on how processes impact customers and customer-facing roles.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead efficiency and effectiveness projects (in partnership with functions) to address prioritized process opportunities in Commercial Operations with heavy focus on how changes impact customers and customer-facing roles
  • Play an active role in creating an optimization strategy for U.S. Commercial Operations
  • Partner on developing operational leading indicator dashboard approach to provide early warning signals for key Commercial Operations processes
  • Enable commercial performance, through the implementation of solutions that address business needs and proactively propose process and system improvements to ensure ongoing alignment with business
  • Be a leader in Process Excellence & Design Thinking for the Commercial Operations function
  • Expands and shares learnings from successful innovative solutions to other functions
  • Play an active role in modelling “zero defect” mentality and approaches

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in business, life sciences or related discipline
  • 8+ years’ experience leading process improvement and program/change management activities
  • Corporate-level experience with cross-functional and cross franchise teams
  • Experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with focus on Marketing and Sales and knowledge of Commercial Operations structure and processes
  • Strong applied Microsoft Office knowledge
  • Certification in LeanSix Sigma or other equivalent process improvement methodologies
  • Deep Organization Effectiveness and Change Management experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

  • Understanding of goals and needs of supported Commercial Operations functions
  • Thought leadership and expertise on the latest industry thinking on Commercial Operations processes including Data Management, Systems, Digital, SFE, Promotional / Sample Management and Program and Convention Management in others
  • Ability to translate process improvements into financial outcomes
  • Thought leader in translating business strategies into a portfolio of high impact projects and scaling quickly from strategic and tactical

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong consultative and verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent facilitation of working groups and project teams
  • Deep experience in presenting insights and conclusions from complex information in an easy to understand, compelling and memorable way
  • Successfully influences and advises project teams and their Sponsors to drive initiatives and decisions forward
  • High degree of customer service and ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with team members, management and internal/external partners
  • High ability to coach and develop colleagues without direct reporting relationships

Other Job Requirements

  • 10% domestic travel. May vary based on Shire work location and prioritized projects.
