To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, the Technology Development Team is seeking a highly motivated Staff Process Engineer to help lead automated liquid handling, process workflow streamlining and scaling of current and new technologies for rare variant studies with next-generation sequencing. At Guardant, we leverage the most advanced technologies and work with leaders in many different fields to create the most impactful and meaningful technologies for cancer management.
As a Staff Process Engineer Technology Development Team, you will focus on being hands on in automating novel and existing procedures across multiple products. You will work with members within this team and the greater members of product, operations, and bioinformatics.
Perform assay automation development from concept, requirements definition, and manual assay development to adaptation, optimization, troubleshooting and validation.
Utilize knowledge and techniques of molecular biology and biochemistry to troubleshoot analytical and preparative processes.
Apply scientific methods and engineering skills to improve the scalability of Guardant Health’s sample processing workflows.
Analyze workflows, identify bottlenecks, and develop solutions to improve efficiency, throughput, cost, and quality.
Contribute to innovation of current and new assay workflows, technologies and processes.
Program, optimize, verify and implement robotic liquid handling workstations and integrated robotic systems.
Collaborate and participate in or lead cross-functional teams working in a variety of projects to explore, develop, optimize, test, and implement robust, scalable solutions for Guardant Health’s sample processing workflows with attention to understanding business and user requirements and improving efficiency, throughput, and quality.
Perform all laboratory procedures needed to process samples with our workflows to support process development and implementation activities and contribute to protocol generation, report writing and presentation preparation.
Automate and scale complex workflows and implement processes for a state of the art sequencing lab.
Support the development of all parts of a state-of-the-art robotics facility.
BS, MS, or PhD in Engineering or Science, preferable in chemicalengineering, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry or a closely related discipline
BS in engineering or science with 15+ years MS in engineering or science with 10+ years or PhD in engineering or science with 5+ years of experience in diagnostics or genomics industry
Must have experience with automating liquid handling processes using Hamilton Robotics platforms, preferably for diagnostics and/or NGS sample preparation.
Experience working in a regulated environment (CLIA/CAP, ISO, FDA)
Familiarity with streamlining workflows and developing automated laboratory processes and instrumentation systems, including collecting and documenting requirements, developing concepts, design, testing/validation, implementing, and training
Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, purification and quantitation, bioanalyzer, DNA/RNA quantitation, qPCR or next generation sequencing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience communicating and collaborating with internal and external colleagues and customers from diverse scientific, engineering, operational, and regulatory discipline
Ability to create process flow diagrams.
