Process Development Engineer

We are seeking an outstanding Process Development Engineer to join our growing team. This individual will work closely with Product Development, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Automation Engineering, Building Engineering and Skilled Trades. You will be responsible for the development of integrated wall systems, floor systems and other building components facilitating high quality, low cost, rapid assembly buildings. The Process Development Engineer will define, develop and transfer processes to the manufacturing organization. These processes will be developed to be safe, repeatable and cost efficient. Processes will meet target TAKT time and have a demonstrated six sigma process capability (Cpk) before being transferred to Manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with high-volume manufacturing lines and have a thorough understanding of Six-Sigma techniques and Lean Manufacturing. The Process Development Engineer will work cross-functionally and will have program / project management experience. Katerra is striving to bring High Tech Manufacturing techniques into the construction industry, and as such the ideal candidate will have a background in High Tech Manufacturing techniques as well as a willingness to learn new processes, code requirements and techniques from building engineers and skilled craftsmen.

Position Summary

  • Develops manufacturing processes that will result in products meeting required safety, quality, performance and compliance characteristics.
  • Review instructions and blueprints for the project to ensure the test specifications and procedures are followed and objectives are met
  • Consults with Product Development and Building Engineering to ensure all incomplete or unclear information is obtained and clarified prior to engaging in development activities.
  • Prepares and maintains various schedules and action tracking logs related to development activities.
  • Perform structured engineering studies, DOE, Gage R&R, cycle time studies, etc.
  • Create, implement, and maintain PFMEA and control plans
  • Create work instructions for Process Engineering and Operations
  • Flexibility to perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Supports a creative and innovative culture and collaborates with others to drive high-level initiatives

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or electrical engineering
  • 5+ years of process or industrial engineering experience.
  • Experience working in high-volume manufacturing such as automotive or semiconductor
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred
  • Proficient with metrology equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges, etc.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience with Cold Formed Steel (CFS) assembly process preferred
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, mills, and/or lathes preferred
