Privacy Program Project Manager: Become the Newest Member of the VF Family

The Privacy Program Project Manager (PPPM) will support VF’s North America Privacy Program. The primary responsibility of the PPPM is to coordinate and direct various teams throughout the organization regarding VF’s collection, use, sharing, and management of customer data.

The mission of the North America Privacy Program is to ensure an enterprise-wide compliance- and risk-based approach to consumer privacy in the region by setting standards, assessing compliance, and implementing improvements, all with the aim of driving a strong culture of compliance and control in support of the principles of fairness and transparency.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a wide-range of VF businesses, including Data, Information Security, Global Business Technology, Strategy, Insights & Analytics, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Risk Management, and Independent Compliance Risk Management and Legal, as well as exciting brands like Vans, The North Face, and Timberland, across North America and the globe to help shape VF’s global privacy program and to lead its regional implementation. VF is at the cutting edge of innovation and this role will allow the individual to be closely involved in the management of privacy risks related to technologies and innovations.

The successful candidate will partner with the Senior IT Counsel, the North America Privacy Governance Team, and other stakeholders to provide support for program planning, execution, tracking, communications, and reporting for all Privacy Program functions across the North America region, working to gain a solid understanding of VF’s organization, infrastructure, policies, and business strategy to facilitate the implementation of privacy policies, strategies and practices.

The PPPM may also be responsible for supporting aspects of privacy compliance efforts in other regions and working broadly with a wide-range of privacy stakeholders, including the Data Protection Officer for the EMEA region, as necessary.

The PPPM position reports to the Senior IT Counsel and does not have direct reports.

How You Will Make a Difference:

  • Responsibility for assessing, creating, and gaining stakeholder alignment to key project management goals, tools, and metrics
  • Ensuring all stakeholders are identified, included in project scope definition activities, and understand the project schedule and key milestones
  • Identifying resource requirements for projects by partnering with stakeholders to understand and communicate the scope of effort, deliverables, and project milestones
  • Responsibility for monitoring open items in a timely fashion to ensure projects stay on track, escalating project risks to the Senior IT Counsel or others, when and as appropriate
  • Overseeing project plans and help ensure they meet project objectives and milestones in agreed project timeframes
  • Producing reports, presentation material, and communications for senior stakeholders and teams
  • Continuously developing skills and knowledge of the compliance landscape and consumer marketing industry through research, due diligence, training, bench-marking and other means
  • Leading in the preparation of all monitoring and reporting activities across the project
  • Understanding of how one’s own area of responsibilities and others collectively integrate to contribute towards achieving overall project success
  • Driving program success by working collaboratively with all members of the program
  • Coordinating with cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize and facilitate execution of potential enhancements to projects/ overall program
  • Coordinating with functional teams to deliver consistent and efficient process/platform enhancements, providing hands-on support and issue escalation as needed
  • Championing a culture of high ethical standards, proactive identification of issues, problem-solving, and progress in order to adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Providing in-depth support with clear thinking to define problems and develop innovative solutions
  • Persuading and influencing others through exceptional communication, persuasion, empathy and diplomacy
  • Managing the performance and management of the privacy program lifecycle, which includes:
    • Coordinating the audit of privacy practices with internal or external audit teams
    • Documenting, and performing regular reviews of privacy procedures
    • Documenting the gaps identified in privacy practices
    • Coordinating remediation efforts for identified gaps
    • Regularly ensuring that the overall program is aligned with, and tailored to, the overall direction and principles of privacy adopted by VF
    • Ensuring that appropriate resources and funding is available to operate and monitor the privacy program lifecycle
    • Regular execution of stakeholder workshops
    • Annual execution of a Data Privacy Risk Assessment
    • Regular coordination of self-assessments by responsible individuals for applications which are in-scope
    • Validation of privacy self-assessment results

Skills for Success:

Years of Related Professional Experience: 5+ years

  • 5+ years of project management experience, with a strong preference for experience in compliance, information technology, privacy, or data security
  • A bachelor’s degree from a reputable college or university
  • Experience working with multiple, diverse teams at a global, consumer-focused organization
  • Experience balancing multiple projects with condensed timelines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software, cloud computing, digital marketing, computer networking is preferred
  • Advanced end-user technology skills are required (including specifically word processing, database, and presentation technologies), as well as the interest and willingness to adopt new technologies rapidly to improve productivity and efficiency
  • Project management certification is strongly preferred
  • Compliance management certification is preferred
  • Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), or similar certification, is strongly preferred
  • Experience with consumer marketing technologies is strongly preferred

Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:

  • Travel expectations are minimal; less than 10%.
