Job Description

Principal Systems Engineers are responsible for the design and implementation of complex systems by coordinating across functional disciplines to ensure performance and design requirements are met. They work with a variety of different teams, including software developers, hardware engineers, and other technical specialists to ensure that their company's products meet customer needs and industry standards. They must have an extensive knowledge of system requirements, performance indicators and parameters, requirement allocation and derivation, and trade analysis applied to the development of systems for military applications. In addition, they must have strong leadership skills to coordinate efforts across multiple departments and teams.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop and maintain complex system architectures for large-scale projects and complex hardware assemblies.
  • Coordinate technical understanding and requirements across the integrated product team.
  • Typically lead integrated product team meetings.
  • Develop system and subsystem interface control documents.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve system issues and improve system functionality
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system diagrams, user manuals, and standard operating procedures
  • Lead project planning and implementation efforts, including resource allocation, risk assessment, and project scheduling
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in systems engineering and identify opportunities to implement them in the organization
  • Manage requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle
  • Establish verification methodology and requirements within the right side of the system V diagram.
  • Provide weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn down
  • Allocate requirements to systems and subsystems and coordinate them with engineering coordination
  • Evaluate system performance thresholds and provide direction
  • Be the point of contact for system integration and checkout
  • Provide input for model development and simulation analysis
  • Review and interpret customer specifications effectively.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses, and explore trade spaces for solution sets.
  • Influence the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems
  • Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Work independently with little to no direction or oversight
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Experience with designing, integrating, and testing Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance systems to include the following:
  • LOS and BLOS Communication (Military Radios, Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks, and SATCOM)
  • Networking
  • Mission Management Systems
  • Position, Navigation, and Timing Systems (Global Navigation Satellite Systems and Inertial Navigation Systems)
  • Experience with configuration management tools
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS, Jama, etc.)
  • Familiarity with systems engineering and modeling tools (e.g. SysML, DoDAF, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead complex projects from planning through implementation
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for systems engineering, including ITIL, ISO, and NIST
  • Has managed requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle
  • Familiarity with electronics and systems related to navigation, image collection, and analysis
  • Has developed systems test plans, procedures, and reports and reviewed and interpreted specifications
  • Writing Systems Safety protocols and ensuring personnel safety during field testing

Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field
  • Master's degree in systems engineering preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on design, development, and maintenance of complex systems for defense applications

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently required to sit, and to reach to use computers and other office equipment

Security Clearance:
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Secret DoD clearance, U.S. Citizenship required.
