As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts,you will provide technical analysis leadership and key work products to the New Shepard team on a diverse array of problems including loads and static and dynamic analysis of primary and secondary structures. You will also have the opportunity to improve the analysis tools and methods. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

  • Identification of opportunities for analysis efficiency, safety, and operational cost improvements
  • Mentoring designers and junior structural analysts in structural analysis best practices
  • Solving complex and diverse structural analysis problems for the New Shepard program for both primary and secondary structures
  • Interfacing with New Shepard technical leaders to implement analysis methods, requirements, and policy that meet performance and schedule requirements.
  • Supporting configuration development and trade studies
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status

  • B.S. degree in engineering and 10+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures;
  • High-judgement; ability to generate innovative solutions and understand the balance between engineering judgment versus analysis rigor and when each is appropriate.
  • Demonstrated experience working on launch vehicles, aircraft, or automotive in several of the following areas:
  • Vehicle load path definition and strength analysis;
  • Fatigue or damage tolerance and crack growth (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc);
  • Dynamic analysis (coupled loads, random vibration, shock, explicit analysis)
  • Structural optimization using standard industry codes (Optistruct, HyperSizer, Nastran Sol 200, etc)
  • Stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (skin-stringer, fittings, sandwich panels, etc);
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, etc).
  • Demonstrated expertise with one or more of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct

  • Direct experience with internal loads development and model validation;
  • Composite design and analysis skills in any thermoset composites.
  • Experience in conventional aircraft fatigue and damage tolerance methods including crack growth assessment (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc), failsafe/safe-life approaches, residual strength, flight load spectra and aircraft repair servicing;
  • Experience in damage tolerance NDE/NDI/repair and failure theories in non-metallic materials such as sandwich structures, carbon fiber laminate, bonded structures, etc;
  • Experience with aerospace structural certification;
  • Manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowables development;
  • Demonstrated process automation experience using scripting languages is highly desired (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc)
  • Experience with ProEngineer Wildfire 4 or greater
