Microsoft's Quantum group is at the forefront of exploring ways to build a full-stack quantum computer and has become the world's center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The development effort includes a staff of theoretical and experimental teams around the world, who have been designing and optimizing all aspects of the quantum computer, from topological qubit designs to cryogenic control and readout circuitry, to runtime software and quantum language compilers. Supporting this research and development effort requires motivated individuals to contribute new breakthroughs, ideas, and results in a fast-paced team environment.
As a Principal Quantum Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing a diverse team of specialists working on Computer-Aided Design (CAD)/Layout, radio-frequency simulations, optimal control, and thermal management. You will present recommendations to the team regarding optimal designs that maximize readout and control efficiency for quantum chips. You will communicate with the broader quantum team spanning multiple locations worldwide and integrate their feedback into chip design. Additionally, you will contribute to decision making and strategy for the work undertaken by Microsoft Quantum.

- OR Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years people management experience.

- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Quantum Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
