The Application Platform Acceleration (APA) team exists to remove infrastructure heavy lifting from Comcast product and development teams. We build and operate modern, multi-cloud application platforms using technologies such as Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, and Concourse CI/CD. We enrich these platforms by layering on easy-to-consume services such as load balancing, persistent storage, metrics and telemetry, messaging, CI/CD, and data services. We remove infrastructure bottlenecks, such as submitting request tickets, by automating everything. Our mission is to enable our product teams to forget about managing infrastructure so they can focus on writing code and bringing their products and services to market as fast as possible with high quality. Additionally, we have a services function, DevX, that focuses on improving the developer experience from the perspective of how they work, in addition to the products used.
We are seeking a Principal Platform Architect to help us both deliver and enhance our next generation application platforms, as well as improving the developer experience through knowledge sharing and embedded engagements with product scrum teams. -Participate on a DevOps platform team; develop and enhance Comcast's next-gen multi-cloud platforms-Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Open Source Cloud Foundry, and Kubernetes.
-Create automation, employ open source software, interact with API's, and enable CI/CD to create new cloud features, harvest/visualize metrics, monitor health/performance/capacity, etc.
-Partner with product and development teams to provide education and design consultation.
-Enthusiastic self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, proven history of execution and delivery, and well developed business acumen.
-Experience with Agile methodologies, effective working independently and in a virtual team setting.
-Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to adjust the messaging based on the audience.
Successful candidates for this position should possess broad experience in many of the following areas:
-Cloud building blocks – Compute, storage, network, tools & automation.
-Extensive platform design experience in private and public cloud IaaS (vSphere, AWS, GCP, Azure), PaaS (Cloud Foundry), and container orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker).
-Expert level Linux experience, experience with DevOps tooling such as Terraform, BOSH, Concourse CI/CD.
-Software development using Java, Python, GoLang.
-Experience in monitoring and telemetry-Telegraf, Grafana, Kapacitor, InfluxDB, and Prometheus.
-Familiarity with messaging, data and event streaming services such as RabbitMQ, Redis, Kafka
-Innovating with open source software to create production services.
-Broad experience in application middleware architecture and data services architecture.
-Understanding of cloud-native, 12-factor application design principles and refactoring applications to be container friendly.
-Experience influencing application modernization and migration to cloud platforms.
