Principal Network Architect
Our client is looking for an Infrastructure architect (local to or willing to relocate to Houston, TX) with a specialization/background in networking to support ongoing and future projects. This individual will work with a global team of Principal architects with various areas of specialization- Hosting, End User Compute, IAM, Unified Communications, etc.
This person will help to provide additional support for the Network Architecture segment.
1. Strong background across networking technologies (Cisco)- including 2-3+ years of creating and implementing successful network architecture designs/solving business problems in a large environment. *should be able to highlight and discuss successful creation and presentation of designs that resulted in successful implementations and impact to the business.
2. Ability to work across/support various project teams providing advisement and ensuring architectural standards are met.
3. Prior experience working in Oil/Gas or similar industry highly preferred. At minimum candidates need knowledge of OT versus IT, differences, standards/best practice on how to design in that type of environment.
4. Experience working in distributed teams ideally in a global enterprise (including multi-cultural teams and varied time zones). Strong communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
5. Nice to haves include knowledge of or certification for TOGAF. Cisco certifications professional level or above (Design certifications preference).
Reporting directly into the Manager, Infrastructure Architecture this role has responsibility for infrastructure strategy, reference architecture, roadmap, standards, integration points and identifying dependencies within existing systems and new systems across client's Technology Landscape. Responsibilities include:
Working with key stakeholders across Technology to develop strategy and architecture for Enterprise Infrastructure and Architecture to support business outcomes. This will include Hosting, End User Computing, Unified Communications, Identity & Access Management, and Network.
The individual will operate with the support and guidance of the broader Infrastructure Architecture team and will create strategy, reference architecture, roadmaps, and standards.
Knowledge and experience creating Infrastructure Strategy and Roadmaps
Knowledge and experience creating Standards and Reference Architecture
Knowledge and experience creating High Level Designs and Low Level Designs
Knowledge and experience of Networking technologies including SD-WAN, MPLS, VRF, DMVPN, multicast, load balancing, switching and routing technologies. Knowledge and experience of Network security constructs and capabilities including Layer 3 and Layer 7 firewalls, IPS, VPN, and Proxy.
Knowledge and experience of hosting technologies including: Hyper-converged infrastructure,, Converged Infrastructure, VMware virtualization, Windows Server OS, RHEL and CITRIX presentation services.
Knowledge and experience with supporting infrastructure service technologies including Active Directory, AzureAD, DNS, DHCP, NTP, file and printing services.
Knowledge and experience with both IT and OT control systems with respect to hosting and network infrastructure
Knowledge and experience unified communication, collaboration technologies and telecoms services including Cisco Video Conferencing, WebEx Meetings, WebEx Teams, Immersive, voice, and SIP. Ability to construct complex bill of materials from a logical design to support a purchase requisition Experience or knowledge with Digital Radio systems and the options associated with remote dispatch consoles.
Understanding of middleware applications and how they may interact with other dependent systems (e.g. Understand what a multitier application is and how SQL high availability configuration would have reliance on an Active / Active datacentre configuration)
Knowledge and experience of implementing end user computing systems including Windows 10 desktop, SCCM, Office 365.
Experience with monitoring and management tools for infrastructure services including SolarWinds, Splunk, SCOM etc.
Work in a local region capacity in a global organisation with the requirement for out of standard business hours phone calls and meetings Fluent in English. Spanish a plus.
Ability to negotiate with business acumen relating to technical issues and queries Excellent documentation skills.
Client will provide standard driven document templates and stencils. Recommended to have experience working on a mine or petroleum site and working in adverse conditions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The role will require interaction with a large number of stakeholders.
Excellent verbal skills including precise questioning and answering.
Minimum 10 years of experience in the IT industry. (resource industry experience favorable) Technical and Solution Architecture background essential. Background in operating & supporting large-scale mission critical server, storage and network environments.
Wide exposure to different hardware, operating systems, and network platforms. Excellent analytical skills. Good understand of ITIL and related processes. Process oriented service delivery mindset with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent, ITIL v3, TOGAF 9, Professional level Cisco Certifications, Professional level Microsoft Certifications, Professional Level VMware Certifications.
