Job Description

The Principal Financial Crimes Analyst, reporting to the Sr. Manager of Financial Crimes, is part of SVB's Financial Intelligence Unit. This Principal Financial Crimes Analyst role is responsible for conducting confidential investigations into financial crimes which may involve Internal Fraud, SVB Client Fraud, Cybercrime, and other Special Investigations in accordance with regulatory requirements and SVB policies and procedures. A successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of FinCEN and FFIEC guidance as well as BSA compliance, experience conducting complex investigations involving misappropriation of funds, bribery/corruption, and financial statement fraud, the ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality while making critical decisions, and the responsibility of drafting/filing Suspicious Activity Reports with FinCEN. This position is Professional Level 4 and requires advanced analytical skills, specialized functional expertise in Internal Fraud, and the ability to drive collaboration with internal partners, external partners, and law enforcement.


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conducts confidential monitoring for and investigations into financial crimes committed by SVB employees and SVB clients;
  • Conducts investigations into matters involving cybercrime;
  • Collaborates with both internal and external partners including Corporate Security, Human Resources, law enforcement, and external financial institutions;
  • Drafts Suspicious Activity Reports and comprehensive investigative reports to internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies;
  • Works independently to assess, document, and develop SVB's Special Investigations and Internal Fraud program; and
  • Maintains knowledge of all financial crime typologies applicable to SVB clients/products/services.

Qualifications

Applicants should exhibit industry-leading investigative, analytical, and writing skills. Must be able to exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Ability to manage multiple deadlines, while remaining timely with obligations is essential. The ability to work independently as well as contribute to the success of the Financial Intelligence Unit. Communicating effectively with internal and external partners, coworkers, and various levels of management is essential.


The following skills/qualifications are required:

  • 5+ years conducting investigations into multiple forms of financial crimes
  • Expert knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) compliance, including Suspicious Activity Reports
  • Exceptional track record of professionalism and personal ethics

The following skills/qualifications are preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable industry certification(s) including Certified Fraud Examiner
  • 2+ years of previous investigative experience in financial crimes, preferably in the fields of internal fraud, cybercrime, or other special investigations
  • Experience as a member of or working directly with law enforcement
  • Prior experience developing procedures, training materials, and regulatory compliant supporting documentation
