Position Summary

The Mechanical Principal Engineer reports to the Program Manager. The Mechanical Principal Engineer is responsible for leading, developing, and supporting products that are used currently used in C&J and customer services. The Mechanical Principal Engineer will work with external/internal multi-disciplinary engineering teams, Operations, and Sales personnel to understand the product requirements and then either lead a team or work within a team to develop a product that meets the requirements. The Mechanical Principal Engineer will develop and oversee testing programs to verify product performance. The Mechanical Principal Engineer will work with Manufacturing to assure the product is manufacturable and cost effective. The  Mechanical Principal Engineer may manage projects and supervise the engineers, designers and technicians that make up the project team. This position requires a Master's degree. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Serve as the technical leader for mechanical engineering discipline at center level
  • Lead key and simultaneous initiatives/projects/teams to achieve project objectives while meeting deadlines and budgets
  • Plan and implement research and development methodology and procedures to apply principles of mechanical theory to engineering projects
  • Research current and future technology needs by investigating current failure modes and understanding future trends
  • Develop key/differentiating technology requirements
  • Develop product, tooling and test fixture designs that consider function, performance, manufacturing and maintenance
  • Conduct risk analysis and develop analysis, simulation and test program
  • Conduct detailed analysis and simulations including stress, strain, shock, vibration, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics
  • Lead engineering, qualification, and field tests
  • Oversee accurate manufacturing drawings and establish fit-for-purpose maintenance procedures
  • Support production/supply chain and resolve manufacturing problems
  • Support field operations and resolve operational issues
  • Lead and mentor other team members
  • Performs other related work as required

  • Ability to direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements
  • Skilled in preparing and studying technical drawings and specifications of mechanical systems to ensure that functionality and operations conform and surpass standards and customer requirements
  • Knowledge of and skill in product design and risk management
  • Skilled in planning and implementing research methodology and procedures to apply principles of mechanical theory to engineering projects
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Knowledge of hydraulic fracturing equipment
  • Knowledge of oilfield equipment manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of technology needs and trends
  • Ability to participate in and lead team efforts to continually improve the product development process

Required Experience and Education


  • Master Degree’s degreerequired (Ph.D. preferred)
  • 10+ years functional experience in related field
  • 15 years of relevant experience in Hydraulic Fracturing equipment/products
  • 15 years in oilfield equipment design and testing
