Job Description


This position is part of the Advanced Engineering team responsible for developing a portfolio of electric drive axles and mechatronic geared systems for Meritor’s core segments. This position will provide technical expertise on motors, controls, and power electronics and will manage our relationships and activities with electronics partners. This position will evaluate different e-axle architectures with electric motor integration, provide recommendations, and ultimately develop e-axle products for customer programs.
• Provide technical expertise on motors, controls, and power electronics for electric drivetrains in hybrid electric and battery electric medium and heavy commercial vehicles
• Provide technical expertise on the integration of sensors and motors into Meritor’s core products
• Provide broad technical expertise on the system requirements of electric drivetrain system integrators
• Complete trade studies evaluating various motor types and axle architectures
• Define specifications for motors, actuators, sensors, and electronics
• Write statements-of-work for motors, controls, and power electronics suppliers and manage outsourced supplier activity
• Support the development of mechatronic technology roadmap and commercialization plans
• Use analysis tools to iterate solutions that optimize system performance and component contributions
• Support strategy development for outsourcing versus insourcing of controls software
• Stay abreast of new technologies and competitive products
• Program manage R&D projects through prototype development

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor degree in Electric Engineering, or Systems Engineering required
• 10 years experience in a mechatronics or electrical engineering role with experience leading and implementing complex mechatronic systems
• Good understanding about the different electric motor topologies and some level of understanding about magnetization
• Good understanding of hybrid and battery electric systems in commercial vehicles
• Good understanding of the engineering theory and principles of complex systems, including mechanical systems, geared systems, electromechanical devices, electric traction motors, and electrical control units
• Good understanding of the capability and application of various analytical tools including MIL/SIL/HIL methods
• Good understanding about PSIM and MATLAB and Simulink softwares
• Proactive / results driven individual with high levels of initiative
