Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$64,500 - $167,200

Lilly is starting up multiple new Device and Packaging (DAP) assets in manufacturing to increase our reach to patients. These assets will provide medicine for current and future products, and we need to improve the RAMP of these assets (Rapid Acceleration of Medicine to Patients). In order to start these lines with a strong safety, quality, and operationally excellent culture, the Engineer for DAP RAMP Team will be responsible for technical support of a cross functional team supporting all new startup DAP assets to support the sites during key milestones, supporting the training and upskilling of newly hired resources at the sites, and developing common processes and practices ultimately improving the RAMP curve for these assets ensuring safety first, quality always, while improving the operational efficiencies of these investments.

This is a unique opportunity to support global startup activities for greenfield manufacturing sites both internally and externally, and the successful candidate will help ensure overall site readiness plans to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Engineer of the DAP RAMP Team is responsible for providing engineering and technical support for processes, materials, systems, and equipment associated with device assembly and packaging. In addition, providing technical expertise to drive improvements in quality and efficiency globally for Device and Packaging to support our new site startups through key milestones such as performance qualification activities, process validations, and on through licensure and operational ramp-up periods. This role will partner with site operational teams and engineering areas to support technical resources who are responsible for supporting the sites through key milestones as additional technical capacity with the goal of improving the operational ramp curve for startup.

This role will work closely with Lilly's central engineering, technical services, information technology, HSE, quality assurance, and quality control roles to identify and deploy resources to the different sites. In addition, this role will closely work with network leadership to coordinate assignments for building skills and capabilities of newly hired Lilly employees at the new facilities through training and short-term opportunities working at operational Lilly facilities. This role will be located outside the US (preferably Europe), with 30-50% travel to the various startup sites - with a focus of RAMP activities occurring outside of the US, with potential to have some US support as well.

  • Analysis of operations, workflows, and device assembly and/or packaging process to provide solutions to maximize efficiency and reduce waste to improve OEE performance
  • Assist DAP sites personnel with line support, process monitoring, problem solving, and reliability improvements
  • Support DAP sites with developing and implementing process improvements and technology upgrades that help with minimizing costs and production issues
  • Assist DAP with building process flow models to predict bottlenecks and resources needed for projects or for other sites
  • Knowledge sharing - Serve as a key resource to support site device assembly and/or packaging engineering groups, domestic and global.
  • Prepares presentations and technical reports.
  • Develop common tools and practices for site start-up activities to support future start-ups' acceleration to operational readiness


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years Engineering experience in plant, process, project delivery, maintenance or related fields supporting device assembly and packaging operations


Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience with device assembly and/or packaging equipment, specifications, qualification/validation process, product/package stability, and packaging components
  • Establish key relationships with Sites.
  • Problem Solving skills - Anticipates and resolves complex problems
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal direction


Additional Skills:
  • Ability to work across boundaries (functional, geographic, external company, etc.).
  • Thorough technical understanding of the quality systems and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with technology advances in device assembly and packaging
  • Project management experience


Additional Information:
  • Must be able to travel up to 30-50% of the time, US and international
  • Will require occasional work in a variety of manufacturing environments; some safety equipment and/or gowning may be required
  • This role will be located outside the US (preferably Europe)
