Chick-fil-A is seeking a Menu & Packaging Principal Category Leader to provide leadership to menu and packaging projects from initialization through launch. This individual must be an exceptional communicator with the ability to influence across multiple levels of the organization. Additionally, he or she must be able to lead and manage projects with excellence. Projects will consist of ingredient and procedural modifications of the menu and packaging for existing products as well as the development of new menu products. This person must be able to influence the organization on strategic decisions, as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that milestones and deliverables are met. He or she willwork closely with Menu Strategy, a Culinary Developer, Menu Services, fellowCategory Leaders, and cross-functional partners in managing a sub-portfolio of the overall menu to improve existing products and develop, test and roll out new products and packaging. This person must have strong leadership, a high capacity to influence others, exceptional communication skills and project management capabilities to drive day-to-day projects and process optimization. This individual requires a high-level of self-direction and a proactive mindset that can provide innovative solutions to drive business growth.


Project Management:

  • Lead menu and packaging development projects from initiation through launch
  • Manage and lead projects effectively and professionally to ensure stakeholders are informed and supportive, Restaurant Operator and customer expectations are met
  • Create annual business plans, including scope, category strategy, human capital needs, and budget requirements for all projects
  • Identify and implement cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Exhibit strong people skills and the ability to accomplish work effectively in a multi-functional team environment
  • Manage project budgets and timelines

Strategy & Development:

  • Provide leadership, vision and future desired state for the sub-portfolio of the menu and packaging work assigned
  • Identify and assist with development of menu items needed for categorygrowth and protect the quality, food safety and market share of each product within your portfolio
  • In conjunction with the Culinary Developer and Menu Strategy create a continuous pipeline of new innovations that could be implemented in the chain as menu additions, improvements or replacements
  • Understands the relationship between the Operator/ Restaurant, supply chain,distribution, food and restaurant process
  • Develop strong relationships with current and potentially new vendors to identify improvement opportunities for current products and packaging as well as their organizational capabilities
  • Manage cross-organizational expectations to evolve the menu strategy to meet the needs of the organization
  • Work closely with Supply Chain group to understand preferred supplier capabilities
  • Understand specifications and the specification system

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4-year college degree required
  • 5+ years of experience in leading work in product development or related field
  • Proven success in influencing at multiple levels across an organization
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills: highly collaborative with ability to build solid working partnerships across functional groups
  • Comfortable and confident presenting content/ strategy to multiple levels of leadership – EC, Strategy Teams, Operators, Team Members, etc.
  • Analytical depth and technical expertise in project management, processes, systems and equipment interface
  • Demonstrated expertise in the product development process
  • Exceptional relational skills to enable interaction with Team Members and corporate management
  • Exceptional planning, organizing and project management abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools and Windows Operating Systems
  • Strong desire to learn industry trends
  • Sense of urgency
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively as well as independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Restaurant experience (corporate or restaurant level)
  • Masters of Business Administration or related degree
