Precision Farm Data Manager at J. R. Simplot Company in Boise, ID

The Precision Farm Data Manager is a seasoned and experienced digital/precision ag expert with a strong background in agronomics, statistics, analytics and common data tools utilized in the trade. Bringing to the role significant farming, agronomy, and ag tech experience across multiple geographies and cropping systems. This role will collaborate with business leaders and work across multiple disciplines applying statistics, farming practices, technology, and agronomic principles to develop and recommend new processes bringing advanced analytics to the J.R. Simplot Company’s farming operations Additionally, this role will support business leaders in defining and implementing potential commercial initiatives generated through these analytical efforts.

In support of our Operating Groups and Farm Managers, the Manager will build, train and lead a team of Digital Ag Specialists to map and execute a detailed, analytical farm data plan across the JR Simplot farming operations. The role will be required to address complex analytic, process, and data challenges where traditional approaches and principles may not readily apply. The role will partner with Farm Managers, Crop Advisors, Operating Personnel and Data Engineers to interpret and analyze farm data in new ways to create actionable farm insights, to propose adjustments to historical/current farming practices and to make recommendations that enable and create the next generation of farming practices

Key Responsibilities

• In concert with business leaders, develop an overall farm specific data plan for our J.R. Simplot Company farming operations.
• Develop actionable insights via partnership with growers to analyze, report, and visualize heretofore under-collected and unavailable farm data.
• Establishes a framework, tools, and processes to apply machine learning to our farming practices.
• Lead a team of Digital Ag Specialists.
• Key liaison with our data and master data teams providing guidance on design and modeling of data structures that support reporting and analytics that provide insights and improve farm management decision tools.
• Participates on Farm Data Domain team to ensure Simplot data standards.
• Coordinates closely with both FG Raw materials team and SGS Digital Sales Enablement team to leverage existing farm data platforms and facilitate data integration between multiple platforms.
• Leads on farm data gap analysis and works with Data Engineers and Digital Specialists to fill gaps.
• Train Digital Specialists and operating personnel on tools and enabling platforms.
• Actively participates in Digital Ag industry to remain current on new and emerging technologies.

Typical Education

• Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
• Master's Degree is preferred

Relevant Experience

Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Analytics, or IT with a significant and strong Agriculture background in Ag Tech or precision agriculture. Must have prior on farm experience with a strong understanding of the following:

• Cropping systems and farming practices in the region
• Fertilizer types and blends
• Seed and drainage regulations
• Location farm equipment
