Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to identify any/all possible barriers to determine exact labor units for proper installation.
Attend post-bid meeting to obtain bid results and identify competition.
Attend kick-off meeting to provide job(s) clarification, upon request.
Visit the CAM/Builders Exchange office to obtain a list of projects out for bid, and check websites of consulting firms for upcoming projects.
Thoroughly review job specifications and prepare accurate quotes as defined. Assist sales support in completing bid forms. Write job specifications and proposals when required.
Complete and coordinate all estimates for a final review meeting for projects classified as “Major Project” or as a key strategic project two (2) days in advance of bid due date. This will allow time for the review by Senior Management and Engineering. All other estimates are to be prepared accurately and punctually 24 hours before the quote due date for salesperson review.
Create construction diagrams.
Assist project managers and sales staff regarding product knowledge and understanding job scope.
Assist Project Managers in quoting change orders.
Create and maintain an accurate worksheet tracking all jobs quoted and status.
Attend seminars, and sponsored manufacturers and industry organizations training to maintain and develop estimating skills and product knowledge.
Search the internet for alternate products and solutions.
Interface with manufacturers and representatives to help analyze new products for possible inclusion into the marketing mix.
Occasionally must be able to answer sales calls and act as an internal sales person when necessary.
Provide a schedule showing a two week forecast of upcoming projects every Friday.
Work independently and with other pre-sales engineers and schedule all estimates to ensure projects are not missed and communicate this information proactively to the sales staff. Provide assistance to other engineers when workload is unachievable. This may require working late occasionally.
Associates degree from a community college in Electronics, plus five-seven years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must have experience in preparation of bids, proposals, and RFP’s. Candidate must be very proficient using Microsoft Products; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Must have the ability to read, interpret, and understand blueprints. This understanding of blueprints extends to being able to accurately understand architectural plans, CAD drawings and elevations and their relationship to proper estimating. Must have a basic knowledge of electrical signal flow and concepts like riser diagrams, function block diagrams, and rack elevations.
