A Power Systems Engineer will function at the Managing Consultant staff level. Guidehouse Managing Consultants owns client engagements from cultivation to completion. In this Power Systems Engineer role, you will be accountable for the activities of the project team and support the day-to-day management of the client relationship. You are expected to effectively develop and manage work plans, staffing, deadlines and budgets for multiple complex projects simultaneously. Work products are expected to be high-quality and client-ready. In this visible role, you will lead team meetings, and guide, manage, and coach consultants and senior consultants, providing constructive feedback on project participation and overall career development. The Power Systems Engineer work closely with Directors and Managing Directors to keep them abreast of project progress and important developments, including project management and invoicing. Power Systems Engineers support sales initiatives and practice development.
Specific Responsibilities
Perform technical modeling and power grid studies. Coordinate with other departments to complete deliverables as required.
Responsible for understanding bulk power system fundamentals including Open Access Transmission Tariffs, Transmission Service Provider functions, wholesale markets, and related cost and asset recovery mechanisms.
Responsible for managing project team member hours tracking and reporting and achieving project margin targets.
Responsible for model set up, technical studies, tariff and rules review to assure project performance to plan and to manage project risks, issues and changes.
Responsible understanding and completing project to contractual scope, schedule, and deliverables, including contract scope change management working with the client to document, review and implement approved changes.
Identifies and manages communication of industry and policy changes that could impact the client. Proactively manage or elevate any policy-related risks, especially as related to FERC or other bulk power grid changes.
Serves as a point of contact with the client Project for matters relating to technical studies.
Leads team and client status meetings to review technical, cost, and schedule status, risks and issues.
Leverages utility and consulting experience, skills, and leadership competencies for team and client relationship development, decision making, problem solving, change and conflict management.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
5+ years of directly relevant professional working experience.
Experienced developing and using analytical models, programming, and simulations.
Demonstrated understanding of Transmission and Bulk Electric System (BES) Fundamentals, including impacts of distributed energy resources.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
Superior interpersonal skills.
High degree of self-confidence and determination.
Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and slide presentation software.
Ability to travel is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Above minimum qualifications and the following:
Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
Experience performing transmission system analysis and resource interconnection processes.
Working knowledge of electricity market fundamentals and integrated resource planning.
Knowledge of regulatory policies and concepts.
Demonstrated understanding and experience with principles of transmission service, transmission rights, and flow entitlements including ATC and TTC.
3+ years Management Consulting experience.
