Provide the Company with the technical and managerial expertise necessary to supervise plant personnel in the operation and maintenance of a cogeneration power plant such that the plant operates safely, reliably, efficiently, and profitably. Provide engineering support for equipment repairs, plant processes, and special projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and maintains Plant Safety Program and ensures plant safety and operation procedures are current and applicable.
  • Supervises plant personnel in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of two gas turbine generators, two heat recovery steam generators, one steam turbine generator, chilled water plant, and balance of plant support equipment in order to ensure optimal plant performance under all plant operating conditions. Position is responsible for equipment with a total value exceeding $200 million.
  • Develops, controls, and tracks an operation and maintenance budget in excess of $7 million annually and indirectly affects an annual fuels budget in excess of $21 million annually.
  • Arranges for and coordinates the activities of outside vendors and contractors.
  • Plans, coordinates, and schedules plant outages and ensures their completion on time and within budget.
  • Ensures optimal plant performance.
  • Identifies, investigates, defines, and resolves plant operation and maintenance problems.
  • Provides cost-effective and accurate solutions to resolving plant operation and maintenance problems.
  • Ensures the resolution of plant operation and maintenance problems complies with technical requirements, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements, and follows sound engineering practices.
  • Assembles and issues monthly plant status reports.
  • Coordinates Heat Recovery Steam Generator repair inspections with an authorized inspector.
  • Identifies all permit requirements and ensures applicable testing is performed and proper information is provided for renewing permits and licenses as required by jurisdictional regulatory agencies.
  • Updates plant drawings and design documents as required.
  • Responds to plant trips and upsets as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering or physical science area or equivalent.
  • Five to ten years' experience in power plant operation or maintenance or equivalent with a minimum of four years' supervisory experience is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with and proven ability to apply the skills and techniques of supervision particularly as they apply to planning, organizing, and controlling of activities performed by others is essential.
  • A thorough knowledge of cogeneration and power plant systems and their operation and maintenance is required.
  • Complete familiarity with Company policies and procedures, practices, and laws and regulations which govern the installation, operation, and maintenance of cogeneration equipment, electrical controls, monitoring and switching equipment, and the purchase, storage, and issuance of necessary parts, equipment, and supplies is required.
  • Good communication skills in both written and oral form is required. Human relations skills to assure clear communications with supervisor, subordinates, peers, and contemporaries in other utilities as well as to promote favorable relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Proficient in reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing technical information, policies, and reports. Thorough knowledge of fundamental economic principles and concepts. Working knowledge of contract development and administration.
  • A professional engineer's license in the State of Wisconsin is preferred.
