Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:
Our group studies how the leukemia microenvironment, carbohydrate modifications and carbohydrate binding proteins contribute to leukemia cell survival and the development of drug resistance. One specific area of study is how a class of carbohydrate-binding proteins called Galectins contributes to the communication between stromal cells and leukemia cells, and the role of this in promoting drug resistance. We are also investigating the glycome, the sialome, and post-glycosylation modification of cell surface structures in leukemia.
Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:
We are in particular looking for someone with a PhD in cell biology. The project involves working with hematopoietic cells in tissue culture, imaging cells, retroviral or lentiviral transduction, FACS and work with mice. Expertise in glycobiology is an advantage but not required. Candidates who are interested in following an academic career path, are self-motivated and enjoy the complexity of biological systems are especially encouraged to apply.
