Two postdoctoral positions in cellular/molecular cardiac electrophysiology are presently available to identify the molecular determinants of voltage-gated potassium (K+) and sodium (Na+) channel diversity and functioning in the mammalian myocardium. These channels are critical determinant of action potential generation and repolarization in the heart and changes in the expression and/or properties of K+/Na+ channels in inherited or acquired cardiovascular disease can lead to cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death. The available positions present an exceptional opportunity for individuals interested in combining a variety of molecular, biochemical, electrophysiological and functional approaches to explore the physiological mechanisms controlling the regulation and modulation of myocardial K+/Na+ channels and how these mechanisms go awry in inherited cardiovascular and systemic diseases. The appointee has earned a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.
Although previous experience in electrophysiology, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and/or imaging is not required, preference will be given to individuals with training and expertise in one or more of these additional areas.
