Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:
Two Postdoctoral Fellow positions are immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Ke Ma, AssociateProfessor, at the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute at City of Hope in Los Angeles. By applying state-of-the-art circadian biology to diabetes and obesity research, Ma lab has established a unique research niche to dissect the coordinated control of circadian clock circuit in metabolic tissue growth and functional capacity. The broad goal of our research is to better understand the temporal control in metabolic diseases to uncover circadian etiologies underlying the development of diabetes and cancer for targeted therapeutic interventions. We are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to study novel signaling and epigenetic mechanisms mediating circadian clock functions in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. Our research utilizes biochemical and molecular biology approaches in genetic mouse models and circadian biology. Specific research directions in Ma Lab will explore, 1), epigenetic networks mediating clock nutrient-sensing function in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle, 2), circadian clock regulation of skeletal muscle growth, development and metabolism, and 3), novel roles of circadian regulators in cancer development and metabolism.
The candidate should be self-motivated, with a proven track record of productivity and strong interest in metabolic disease research. Expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology and animal metabolic studies is preferred, and technical skill in stem cell research and epigenetics is a plus. Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:
- PhD in Molecular, Cellular or Developmental Biology.
- Proficiency with biochemical techniques, molecular biology skills and cell culture systems.
- Experience with in vivo animal model research preferred.
- Experience with stem cell research preferred.
- Experience with epigenetics research a plus.
- Highly motivated and strong research interest in metabolic disease.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a team.
