Job Overview
The College of Nursing and Health Professions at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA seeks candidates for postdoctoral research fellowships. Postdoctoral fellows will join interprofessional teams engaged in clinical and community based research to impact health and wellness of individuals and communities. Research programs within the College utilize biopsychosocial models, innovative designs and approaches including engagement of stakeholders in the research process. There is a strong interest in aging and dementia, health disparities, community health and prevention; health care quality, prevention-based interventions, and implementation science.
The initial appointment will be for one year, with the potential for funding to be extended a second year. Decisions regarding fellowship extensions will be based on scholarly productivity, mid-year and year-end progress reports, and availability of resources. The position provides salary and benefits consistent with NIH postdoctoral fellows.
Each fellow will be appointed a faculty mentor. Postdoctoral research fellows will work with research teams on existing or newly developed research projects. They assist with grant proposals, data management and analysis; preparation of manuscripts, and conference presentations. Fellows are mentored for leadership roles on interprofessional research teams. Fellows have access to faculty and college resources, are provided opportunities to publish, and are supported to conduct their own research including assistance with grant-writing or project planning for the next stage of their research careers. An individualized plan is developed to achieve the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to become a successful independent investigator.
Qualifications
Eligibility:
- PhD or comparable research degree in nursing, creative arts therapies, a behavioral health profession, health and rehabilitation sciences, or a related field.
- Commitment to a research career.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and the proven ability to liaise with key stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and be proactive and innovative.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritize a range of tasks and meet deadlines.
- A willingness to learn, be a collaborative team member.

Post-doctoral fellows will have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to impactful use-inspired interdisciplinary (from cell-to society) aging research in the thematic areas of high relevance to older adults, their families, healthcare and payment systems, communities and policy makers: preventing and managing chronic conditions, enhancing active and purposeful living, and enabling aging in place in home and communities.

Our services are patient-centered using a transdisciplinary approach to deliver primary care, behavioral health, dental services, and health and wellness programs to an estimated 6,000 patients annually. The Center follows the Sanctuary Model of Care, a trauma-informed system of care that continually recognizes and responds to the impact of traumatic stress. The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to engage in evaluation and research activities, conduct online research to produce relevant literature reviews, acquire grant preparation skills, data analysis, as well as co-author and publish scholarly articles.
- Intervention Development to Promote Health and Reduce Health Disparities, Community Engagement Research, and Implementation Science Research - Dr. Loretta Jemmott
The selected post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to: 1) contribute and participate in community engaged research and learn how to use their voices to develop and evaluate interventions to promote the health of residents in vulnerable underserved communities who suffer from various chronic diseases, particularly cancer using qualitative and quantitative methods; 2) work with community stakeholders and listen to their voices to determine what is needed, how to integrate their voices into research methods, and how to build sincere and sustainable community partnerships; 3) engage in research methods of implementation science to integrate the use and uptake of evidenced-based approaches to end-users including into clinical practice, schools, and community programs; and 4) engage in data collection methods, analyzing , and publishing scholarly articles.
- Perinatal mental health interventions to address maternal mental health and effects on infant neurodevelopmental outcomes - Dr. Bobbie Posmontier
Summary of research experience: 1) Assist with program evaluation as well as therapy process and outcome research within the Drexel Mother Baby Connections program utilizing mixed methods approaches, including quantitative and qualitative assessment of mothers, and observational measurement of maternal-infant interaction quality. 2) Participate in a funded research protocol utilizing FNIRs to compare brain oxygenation in mothers with postpartum depression and their infants to mothers without postpartum depression and their infants.

A competitive candidate for the post-doctoral fellowship will have any or all of the following research skills: 1) Human factors/cognitive systems engineering/human-computer interaction (ethnographic analysis, focus groups, information requirements analysis and design, procedure analysis and design); 2) Qualitative data collection and analysis (e.g., thematic analysis, document analysis, workflow analysis); 3) Quantitative data collection and analysis (e.g., hospital and home care utilization, patient problem acuity).
