Our Manufacturing client based in Akron OH is in need of a Plant Manager to oversee operations within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.  This group is an industry leader and continues to show signs of significant growth as a top performing organization.  The Plant Manager will focus on the development of and implementation of dynamic operational strategies, systems and processes throughout the entire Akron facility.  Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement strategies will be vital to this Manager’s success as well as the entirety of the plant.  Responsibilities of the Plant Manager will include:

  • Taking lead on all facets of manufacturing operations and lead all Plant Production efforts
  • Oversee and take responsibility for heading up Maintenance, Materials Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Quality, EH&S, as well as HR and Finance responsibility
  • Initiate operational process improvement programs
  • Achieve industry leading product availability by reducing target lead times and effectively building up strategic inventory
  • Maintain a focus on attaining throughput objectives that enable an operational scale to support business growth in the future
  • Strategize and maintain proper plant layout in order to maximize customer lead times and minimize operational costs and cash flow requirements
  • Ensure that progressive safety rules and regulations are adhered to 
  • Partner with Divisional Sales, Product Management / Marketing, Engineering, HR and Finance functions to enhance operational capabilities
  • Create and recommend Plant goals and objectives, strategic initiatives, budget plans and ensure effective communication and ongoing implementation of these plans
  • Taking responsibility for achieving results, as well as timely and efficient use of performance management systems
  • Develop high potential talent already existing within the Plant as well as providing a pipeline for future Plant leaders.

Education / Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering, business management, manufacturing, or industrial science.  MBA preferred.
  • Ten (10) or more years of manufacturing operations experience with roles of progressively increasing responsibility; Three (3) or more years of experience as a Plant Manager
  • Experience leading continuous improvement efforts and lean management programs
  • In-depth, hands on manufacturing experience, preferably in a steel fabrication and assembly environment with low volume / high product mix / high margin
  • Heavy Equipment or similar industry experience
  • Strong record of demonstrated experience in formal safety improvement programs
