Materials Manager

Duties will include, but not be limited to the following: 

  • Responsible for central TMS operation including optimization of available orders across plant locations
  • Assist in planning and execution of multi-stop truckload shipments and coordinate pick-ups with carriers
  • Provide shipping personnel daily shipment plans and communicate changes and updates as necessary
  • Assist in carrier compliance, including maintaining relationships with carriers and ensuring that carriers obey safety and Mueller-specific requirements
  • Work with purchasing and suppliers to coordinate transportation of inbound material
  • Assist Logistics & Trade Compliance Manager with maintaining proper balance between cost control and service to customers
  • Oversee warehouse operations including safety, quality, cleanliness, 5S, continuous improvement, budgeting and inventory control
  • Teach and train functional team in competencies and technical/functional skills
  • Manage receiving, inventory and shipping operations to ensure efficient flow and storage of materials including development of SOP’s
  • Supervise receiving, inventory and shipping personnel and ensure proper staffing levels
  • Effectively communicate with management and across departments
  • Provide recommendations for warehouse design by product flow and handling

  • Experience developing and managing KPIs and metrics



  • 2+ years supervisory experience
  • 2-5+ years of experience in a shipping department
  • 5+ years relevant S/C work experience
  • Successfully managed20,000+ annual shipments including truckload; $3M logistics spend with 10+ carriers
  • Successfully managed handling, storage and distribution of 1000+ SKUs


Bachelors’ Degree in business or logistics



  • Previous Supply Chain experience in a union environment
  • 2 years’ experience in making materials flow
  • Exposure to Lean and/or manufacturing environment
  • Professional certification APICS or CSCMP
