The Pitches and Proposals Manager will manage the full life cycle of pitch and proposal opportunities working collaboratively with attorneys, the Business Development team and other key stakeholders involved in pursuits. This includes assessing opportunities to determine if they are in line with the firm's business priorities, developing strategy, identifying the team, developing tailored proposals and client-facing materials with meaningful ideas and creativity to shape strategic pursuits. The position requires the ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands, a demonstration of strong writing, project management and communication skills and the flexibility to respond quickly and effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the proposal process for bids/pitches, RFPs, panel and strategic opportunities.
  • Oversee the qualification of opportunities and bid/no bid process.
  • Lead the project management of proposals including, kickoff and project meetings to discuss the requirements of the opportunity; determine the value proposition, approach and develop win strategies; identify appropriate resources/staffing, establish project schedule, manage firm resources and assignments, etc.
  • Draft original and compelling content and customize existing content to differentiate the firm.
  • Create presentations for new business pitches or final stage RFP/panel opportunity meetings.
  • Work with the business & competitive intelligence team to incorporate research and data into the firm's response to an opportunity.
  • Work with the pricing team to develop fee proposals that are in accordance with the stated objectives of the opportunity.
  • Work with the branding team to produce materials that meets the firm's brand standards and reflect the requirements of the opportunity.
  • Project manage multiple proposals, pitches and presentations simultaneously with minimal direction to the satisfaction of internal clients.
  • Track opportunities within Foundation, the firm's experience and proposal management system.
  • Contribute to the drafting and updating of proposal content in Foundation (practice and industry-specific content, firm information, etc.)
  • Develop a strong knowledge of each practice/industry group, including business trends and competitive landscape for legal services, specifically trends in best RFP practices.
  • Continue to innovate and enhance the firm's approach to pitch and proposal response development.
  • Coach lawyers on best practices and winning approaches to developing effective responses and presentations.
  • Follow up with attorneys on outcomes and conduct debriefings – apply feedback to improve future proposal, pitch and presentation materials and processes.
  • Report on pitch and proposal activity and performance.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience developing complex proposals to support business development efforts in a professional services firm and at least 3 years of experience leading and managing proposal development efforts, preferably managing a team.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Polished presentation and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to collaborate and communicate confidently with all levels of an organization.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Outstanding project management skills and the ability to juggle competing, shifting priorities.
  • Experience managing and developing direct reports.
  • Flexibility regarding schedule and workload and a willingness to work overtime, as needed, to meet all deadlines.
  • Outstanding analytical skills balanced with sound business judgment.
