POSITION SUMMARY

The PIC Lead Engineer, R&D is responsible for leading, designing, tapeout and characterization of PICs supporting the Advanced Technology department. This role is also responsible for aligning the Photonics technology roadmap between the product roadmap. In this role the candidate will work with the Silicon wafer processing and device teams to identify new process modules needed and new devices needed. This role will work with the management team to ensure execution of the new development programs needed to support the technology and product roadmaps.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as PIC lead responsible for circuit and device design, active and passive devices, layout and PIC characterization
Responsible for Optical device, circuit and system simulations
Collaborate with Silicon Photonics and III-V Device teams to align device performance capabilities with technology roadmap and product roadmap
Collaborate with optical systems engineers to align PIC requirements and roadmaps with customer needs
Identify and specify PIC process and device programs to align technology roadmap with product roadmap
Support product development programs as expert advisor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

PhD in Photonics or related field
Minimum 7 years in Silicon Photonic PIC design and test
Experience with simulation and modeling passive and active photonic devices
Design, tapeout and testing of PICs, knowledge of design and simulation tools (Lumerical, Synopsis/Rsoft/Phoenix, PhotonD, …)
Familiar with system aspect uses of PICs
Technical interactions with outside partners and suppliers
Familiar with wafer level processing of PICs (Silicon and III-V)
