POSITION SUMMARY
To provide high quality primary care services to patients of all ages at PCHC Site(s).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Provides direct patient care as outlined in the PCHC Provider Engagement Letter and the PCHC Provider
Handbook.
2. Diagnoses, treatment and/or proper referral while maintaining expected medical standards.
3. Provides care for the patients of PCHC including: tracking, patient follow-up, performs patient education,
counseling as indicated and inpatient care if required.
4. Evaluates patients in a timely and courteous manner.
5. Secures and maintains hospital admitting privileges at assigned area hospitals.
6. Familiar with and follows State of Maine sexual abuse legal requirements.
7. Familiar with immunization statutes, schedules and contraindications and follows them.
8. Appropriately charts in electronic medical records at PCHC facilities in a timely manner.
9. Attends PCHC and assigned hospital staff meetings and other meetings as directed/requested by the
Medical Director.
10. Participates in or conducts in-service training for the providers of PCHC.
11. Attends continuing medical education (CME) programs and provides copy of course completion
certificate to Human Resources.
12. Maintains confidentiality of patient care and agency operations at all times.
13. Works collegially with other medical disciplines/mid-level providers, including sharing patient care and
after-hours call with Family Practitioners.
14. Works collegially with the support and administrative staff in a positive, constructive manner.
15. Contributes to the training and proficiencies of clinical personnel, including medical students and
residents.
16. Participates in quality improvement programs that will assure that patients receive quality care in the
office and from other providers of health care service, using peer review, medical records audits,
grievances and other mechanisms as appropriate.
17. Participates in PCHC activities such as health fairs, CME activities, and community events.
18. Functions as an advocate for patients, particularly those with fewer economic and social resources.
19. Understands role in Disaster Plan promotes patient and staff safety.
20. Complies with PCHC Code of Conduct.
21. Follows PCHC policies, personnel policies and patient protocols not otherwise addressed in provider
manual.
22. Follows appropriate Infection Control Procedures.
23. Responsible for learning, performing and following safe practices and procedures
24. Knows roles or responsibilities in the event of an incident and how to report incidents.
25. Uses Personal Protective Equipment as appropriate.
26. Supervises constructively physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
27. Mentors healthcare students.
28. Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of organizational goals
and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
29. Conforms to acceptable attendance and punctuality standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.
30. Complies with all safety rules and protocols. Reports all accidents, regardless of severity, immediately to
supervisor and completes incident/injury report and investigation form, which will be forwarded to
Human Resources within 24 hours of incident.
31. Abides by the organizations compliance program and its requirements.
32. Current on all required training for current year.
33. Performs all other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of the principles and practice of family medicine and preventive medicine.
2. Knowledge of the state and federal laws pertaining to medicine and to community health centers.
3. Knowledge of the structure and function of community health centers.
4. Maintains Board Certification.
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other
conditions common to a medical practice setting.
· Normal medical office environment.
· Involves frequent contact with staff, patients and the public.
· Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with people who are angry or upset.
· Working extended hours may be required as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Graduate of an accredited medical school with a Maine State license to practice medicine and have a
valid DEA number.
· Board Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine within three (3) years of completing a
Family Medicine Residency required.
· Will have up-to-date training and certification in Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support issued by
American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Health & Safety Institute. Must
obtain within 3 months if not current at hire.
· Be able to be credentialed at assigned hospitals and contractible on PCHC insurance plans.
· Must not be excluded from participation in federal health care programs.
