The General Surgeon is a specialty professional in the care of our patients. The General Surgeon will evaluate and treat diseases which need surgical diagnosis and/or treatment to achieve cure, mitigation or palliation. The General Surgeon will perform procedures alone, with residents and students; attend daily inpatient rounds; attend cancer conferences; attend or give weekly grand rounds; supervise outpatient clinics, take general surgery on call, and may participate in research. The General Surgeon will maintain competency in teaching, education, evaluation, and mentoring of trainees. The General Surgeon will demonstrate the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers, maintain the confidentiality of patient/employee information, and to function and work in a safe manner, as well as demonstrating an on-going commitment to and understanding of the Medical Center's Performance Improvement program.
A specific interest in Vascular surgery, additional training and experience in vascular procedures, especially dialysis access creation, and assisting the vascular surgeon in call coverage, is preferred.
The General Surgeon will demonstrate the knowledge of changes associated with ageing and principles of human growth and development possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data, and the ability to identify age-specific needs such as incorporating age specific factors, and needs into patient care activities.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
