The Syracuse VA Medical Center's newly constructed, state-of-the-art Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Center is seeking a full-time academic physician. Physicians will practice clinically at the VA Medical Center and hold academic appointments with the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University (UMU).

The position involves the day-to-day medical care of persons with SCI and disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, inclusive of both traumatic and non-traumatic SCI, multiple sclerosis, and ALS. It also includes the supervision of SUNY medical students, residents and fellows, as well as nurse practitioners. The Syracuse VA Medical Center is a dynamic teaching hospital that is closely affiliated with and physically adjacent to the SUNY UMU, with strong resident involvement. Applicants must possess a current and unrestricted license in any State, must qualify for an academic appointment at SUNY UMU, and should have excellent diagnostic and interpersonal skills, a commitment to team building and the overall aptitude for leadership, educational development and research. A SUNY academic appointment will be conferred in accordance with academic rank commensurate with quality and length of experience.

This position may be eligible for EDRP, a student loan reimbursement program. Please consult with the Human Resources point-of-contact listed in the "How to apply" section of this job announcement to verify EDRP eligibility. If selected for this position you must submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment services Office.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Preferred Experience: Board certification or eligibility in physical medicine and rehabilitation ( in addition to spinal cord injury)

Physical Requirements: Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment physical. Position requires walking, standing, reading typewritten material without strain, ability to hear conversational voice, emotional and mental stability, and working closely with others. Incumbent may be exposed to blood and body fluids. Must be able to physically respond when needed by prompt appearance at required location.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
