Department Profile:

The IV Infusion Department works in a team orientated and faith based environment that promotes a very high level of quality of care. It provides evidence-based vascular access care for patients that include Intravenous (IV) Access, Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) line placement & insertion, and dressing changes. The IV Infusion Department supports the nursing units, collaborates with the RNs, medical staff, and educates patients and their family members on the procedure in a compassionate patient and family centered care environment. It also supports and upholds quality standards of a Magnet designated hospital and Patient Bill of Rights and practices under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy.

Job Summary:

Primary responsibility is front-line management of pharmacy operational areas, including accountability for customer services to inpatient and outpatient care areas. Individual oversight assignments include the central operations of the main hospital pharmacy, the sterile operations of the cleanroom pharmacy,( in Orlando, the satellite operations of the Ginsberg pharmacy, the satellite operations of the operating room and CVICU pharmacies, or the satellite operations of the inpatient oncology pharmacy). Responsible for direct oversight of day-to-day operations in assigned pharmacy areas including personnel assignments and activities, medication dispensing programs, pharmacy automation, and medication inventory to ensure effective and timely provision of pharmacy services and medication therapy. Supervises staff and actively participates in operations to ensure accurate evidence-based medication services are provided to patients and pharmacy support services are available to medical and nursing staff to improve medication utilization and enhance treatment outcomes. Facilitates communication between shifts and supportspharmacist and technician scheduling, including coordinating for pharmacy staffing shortages. Provides education to staff, enforces departmental and institutional policies, and initiates development plans or corrective action to pharmacy staff as needed and in collaboration with other managers. Actively manages human, capital, and operational resources to collaboratively support patient-care services, medication safety systems, regulatory compliance initiatives, and quality assurance programs throughout the Department of Pharmacy. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Leadership qualities essential to operate effectively within the institution and advance the practice of pharmacy
  • Proficiency in general hospital pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency with hospital computer systems, pharmacy technology, and pharmacy automation
  • Working knowledge of contemporary hospital pharmacy practice, patient-centered care, advanced pharmacy practice, medication therapy management, and evidence-based medicine
  • Strong verbal communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills
  • Ability to analyze data and follow-up and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to keep accurate and complete records
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and support personnel
  • Ability to define operational or program problems/needs and solutions

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree
  • Three or more years of contemporary hospital pharmacy practice experience
  • Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Pharmacy or Pharmacy Administration, Master of Business Administration, or other advanced degree in pharmacy or healthcare leadership (Preferred)
  • PGY1 (post-grad year 1) Pharmacy Residency and PGY2 (post-grad year 2) Specialty Residency, or PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency (Preferred)
  • Pharmacy leadership with supervisory experience (Preferred)
  • Practice experience in a large hospital (greater than 500 bed institution) and integrated healthcare system (three or more hospitals in system) (Preferred)
  • Expertise using Cerner pharmacy solutions and services (Preferred)
  • Expertise using Pyxis automated dispensing technology (Preferred)
  • Expertise in USP 797 guidelines (Preferred

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Preferred)

  • Ability to integrate clinical and distributive pharmacy services with quality improvement, teaching, research, and professional development activities (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current, valid State of Florida Pharmacist license
  • Eligible for registration as a pharmacist preceptor with the Florida Board of Pharmacy and the various schools of pharmacy located within the State of Florida (Preferred)
  • Board certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (Preferred)

  • Maintains pharmacy operational areas and medication management programs in constant state of survey readiness for all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Assists with preparation of an annual budget and manages assigned budgets and financial resources including stewardship, cost control, and restriction/surveillance programs.
