Job Description

Job Summary:

Coordinates medication use, related education, and research to provide pharmaceutical care to patients.



  • Manages drug therapy protocols as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Reviews, interprets and evaluates medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential or actual drug-related problems.
  • Provides drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Documents interventions and their outcomes for use in drug therapy quality improvement efforts.
  • Under limited direction, and according to established policies and procedures, provides clinical pharmacy services including primary, distributive and consultative services to patients and health care providers to ensure optimal drug utilization. Particpates in clinical research, oversees and/or participates in the preparation and dispensing of medications.
  • Provides education and training to medical, pharmacy and nursing staff students and residents.
  • Participates in committees as assigned by the Clinical Manager or Director of Pharmacy. Participates in professional growth and development opportunities and keeps current in field.
  • Serve as clinical resource and leader for clinical drug programs and initiatives performs monitoring and data collection activities to assure effectiveness of clinical activities and drug utilization.

  • Required Credential(s):
    • Licensed Pharmacist credentialed from the Michigan Board of Pharmacy.  Or Certified Instructor.
    • One or more of the following:
      • Certification specializing in Pharmacotherapy credentialed from the Board Of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date. 
      • Licensed Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Michigan Board of Pharmacy .  MI controlled substance license required.


  • Bachelorof Science 
    • BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D from an accredited college of pharmacy is required and Completion of post graduate residency (PGY1) and post graduate residency (PGY2) in specialty area of practice required, OR must have equivalent training and experience.
